A lot of high school seniors may be receiving early decision/action acceptances, rejections or deferrals from colleges right now. It's a tough time of year and while some of you may be relieved and elated, others may be dealing with some difficulties.
Congratulations to those who got accepted! If you're someone who didn't, here are three reasons that that's really OK.
1. Maybe that college just wasn't the right fit for you.
The reason you didn't get in is not because you aren't smart enough, or didn't have high enough test scores, or didn't participate in enough extracurricular activities. It's because perhaps you weren't a good fit for the college. That means that you may not have enjoyed your four years there, and four years is a long time. Every university has a different vibe, and this one might not have fit yours. Whatever happens is for the best!
2. You have another shot at regular decision.
You may not have gotten into your first-choice/early application college, but you have time for another round of applications. While it may have been nice not to do those, you have the option to apply all over again and still go to a place that you really like!
3. Setbacks are a part of a successful life.
Every successful person has had many, many setbacks. For some perspective, Albert Einstein wasn't admitted to a polytechnic institute in Zurich on his first try.
During every setback you grow as a person, you become a more well-rounded individual and you learn things about yourself you otherwise would never have known.
Good luck to everyone applying regular decision! I hope you end up where you fit best!
