After long months of waiting, the hit NBC drama "This Is Us" finally returned to our TV screens a few nights ago. Now, we can laugh and cry along with Randall, Kevin, Kate and the rest of the gang every Tuesday night as we follow the Pearson family throughout their lives. Below are three of the best moments of the season premiere to focus on as this season begins and we get ready for the emotional roller-coaster that is surely approaching:
1. When Rebecca mentions how nobody is perfect, but Jack was the closest thing to it.
Although we can see that their marriage was not perfect, Rebecca even admitting this herself, it was very easy to see all the love Rebecca still has for Jack. The way she speaks about him to Randall proves that no matter what happened between them in their marriage, she has never stopped thinking highly of Jack Pearson.
2. When Randall tells Beth that he thinks their marriage is perfect.
I've always been a huge fan of their marriage, so naturally, this scene really got to me. It was clear that Randall and Beth were frequently disagreeing about adopting and it was putting a strain on their relationship. Rebecca had previously mentioned to Randall that no marriage is perfect, so it was touching to hear Randall disagree with his mother and tell Beth that he believes that they have the perfect marriage. Their relationship is constantly filled with the love and support that every solid relationship should have, so it was touching to hear them address it.
3. When Kate gets rejected from her audition because of her lack of talent as opposed to her physical appearance.
This scene was really emotional (but then again, what scene in this show isn't?). It made me sad to watch how Kate felt inadequate for her entire life based solely on her physical appearance. It was even sadder to see that when she first gets rejected from her audition, she automatically assumes that she was denied because of what she looks like, admitting that she is used to experiencing situations like this. Kate basically felt good when she was told she didn't get the job because she just wasn't a strong enough singer.
It upset me to think that Kate was so accustomed to not getting a job due to her looks and that she was actually surprised to hear that it was her talent that kept her from getting the gig, when talent should always be the only factor she is judged on at auditions. Seeing Kate's positive reaction to getting rejected based on her singing ability and hearing her say "I can work with that" made me feel sad that she was used to feeling insecure about her looks, but hopeful that she will use this experience to help her in the future.
