3 New Artists You Should Listen to Right Now: 21 and Under

So I had to go on a hunt this week because I wasn't quite sure who I was going to write about because my list of new artists is slowly dwindling. To prevent this from happening, send me a new artist you think is worthy of me listening to! I listen to everything and everyone. I'd prefer if their monthly listeners on Spotify were under 500k, but if they're absolutely spectacular to the point more people need to hear them then please don't hesitate!

1. Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is an English singer songwriter and model who's album is finally set to release in February. Her music is upbeat and sexy. Her raspy, high register makes you want to wear tight leather clothes and jump around in knee high boots. Whether or not you're into that.

I saw her live when she opened up for Troye Sivan during his "Blue Neighbourhood Tour" and I was surprised. She was cute and sassy and a very good singer. I'm sorry, that's an understatement. She's a phenomenal singer. It was only a 6 song set but she kept it up. You can tell she's new to the live concert world because her dance moves and the way she worked the stage was repetitive. But that's what develops over time. I have high hopes for her career. You probably know her for her song "Hotter Than Hell". But check her out on iTunes and Spotify!

2. Noah Cyrus

Woah, that image came out big... Anyway.

Last time I checked Noah Cyrus was getting braces and just entering high school and the voice of Ponyo, but I guess that's all behind us now and she has become the new Kylie Jenner of the Cyrus family. At only 16, she's trying to make a living for herself. She just released a new song feat. Labrinth and it's actually not too bad. With just over 9 million streams she sounds like a young Miley Cyrus, or a more developed Hannah Montana, so to speak. It's definitely worth at least giving a listen even if you're not into Miley Cyrus. Because who knows, she could be the next hit artist. With only one song out I'm kind of excited to see where her career will take her. She's lucky to have the Cyrus name and the beauty from her sister, but will she hold up to the legend?

Check her out on Spotify and iTunes.

3. Grace VanderWaal

At only 12 years old, from Kansas City, this little ukulele protege won 2016's America's Got Talent and within a year she released her first EP "Perfectly Imperfect". She may be extremely young and some of her songs aren't quite relatable to every college kid out there but this is someone's career you should watch. As she gets older and experiences the ups and downs of adolescence I'm sure her music will become comparable to Taylor Swift's lyrics. Her voice and music are tear jerkers. It's as if the emotions were leaking from her raspy, high register. She has a long way to go and I hope her career and contract with Simon Cowell and Columbia Records won't affect her music making abilities or perhaps her creative control because it's something that makes this little girl special.

When I first listened to her on the show I was swooning. I said "If this little girl doesn't at least earn a deal from being on this show I will contact her myself",

Check out her EP "Perfectly Imperfect" on Spotify and iTunes

There ya have it, folks. (I think I've said that too many times) Oh well. If you have any suggestions for new music take a gander at my contact information up top and give me a few artists you think I should write about! Or, if you're in a band or an artist who has some music out, send me a message! Also, I've made a Spotify playlist for all the artists I've written about so far. So check that out too! Good luck on finals everyone.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
