It's not that bad, we promise.

3 Myths You Hear About College

All throughout high school my teachers told me all about the scary things that happen in college. They told me that my professors won't have time to help me, that all my classes will be insanely hard, and that it's really hard to balance everything. Now I know I've written about high school versus college and college in general, so for this I want to do some "de-mythifying" on the myths that we all heard in high school about college.

1. Classes aren't that bad.

Okay so I know this may not be the same for everybody out there. We are all in different majors, are taking different levels of classes and taking on different course loads. But I would just like to point out that those hard classes that you feel like will be the death of you won't ruin your life. If you power through it and take advantage of all the all the resources around you, chances are you will survive. I know your teachers in high school are probably scaring you saying, "You think this is bad? Wait until college." In some cases, it may be worse than high school and your teachers were right, but you will get through it. This really comes down to what the theme of a few of articles have been about: time management.

2. Your professors do care about you.

So far I've only had one lecture class where I wasn't a huge fan of professor, but aside from that my professors have been very helpful. Yes it is true, occasionally you may come across a professor who may not help you succeed to the best of your ability, that's life and it will probably happen. However, more often than not, if you go out of your way to seek help, your professor will go out of his/her way for you. They're not mean and scary like your previous teachers may have told you, so don't stress too much.

3. Just because you woke up early for high school, does not mean you will be able to in college.

A 6 a.m. wake up call may not seem like much now, but honestly if you have the ability to schedule later classes, do it. Personally, the earliest class I prefer taking is a 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. (9 a.m. is still kind of stretching for me). If you can avoid scheduling those 8 a.m.'s, then you need to, otherwise you will deeply regret that decision once classes start. Seriously, don't do it. You will not want to get out of bed.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
