Many Michiganders look for cool places to visit during the summer months and forget about the multiple beautiful places that Michigan has to offer. For the past three summers, I have traveled to Marquette, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. Each year I cannot wait to go back. Michigan's Upper Peninsula is absolutely beautiful, and it's a great getaway vacation that isn't far from home. Marquette is such a unique city and offers some great trails and outdoorsy things to do. Here are my top three places that I love to visit in Marquette, Michigan, and I recommend you check them out too!
1. Presque Isle Park
Presque Isle Park is one of Marquette's most popular places as it includes over 300 acres of forests and is a peninsula that meets Lake Superior. Presque Isle Park has tons of good trails, a lighthouse, a harbor and of course Black Rocks. Black Rocks is at the tip of Presque Isle Park, and it's the perfect place to do some cliff jumping into Lake Superior. Trust me, you're going to want to do this at some time in your life. Yes, the water is freezing (even in mid-summer), but I promise it's an awesomely refreshing experience!.
2. Dead River Falls
Dead River Falls is also located in Marquette, Michigan, and it's a great place to go for a scenic hike. The trail is pretty difficult, so I suggest making a day out of it. Take your time and enjoy the view; there is plenty to look at!
3. Hogsback Mountain
Just about 5 miles north of Marquette is Hogsback Mountain. If you enjoy a good hike, then I definitely recommend doing Hogsback. The trails are narrow, twisty, and they aren't clearly marked, but the view at the top is definitely worth it.
Of course, there is much more to do and see in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, but these are just a few of my favorites. So if you get a weekend off of work or if you're in desperate need of a vacation, head north and check out Marquette, Michigan. You won't be disappointed!
