3 Hudson Valley Hikes To Take This Summer

If you’re planning to have a "stay-cation" here in the Hudson Valley this summer, your backyard is still filled with amazing and breathtaking views that you can take advantage of. If you are like me, someone who likes a challenge and wants to do as many things as you can before summer comes to an end, here are some you can do right here in our lovely home— without worrying about a drive or extra vacation expenses!

1. Mount Beacon

Make sure you wear good comfortable shoes and light clothing. With a steep incline, you’re probably in for a good workout, but it’s all worth it once you get to the top. With a view of the Hudson and the Newburgh-Beacon bridge, it feels like standing on top of the world! You can take in all the beauty and decide if you want to continue your hike all the way up to the fire tower. Also, right next door is Storm King mountain on the other side of the river.

2. Minnewaska

About 40 minutes from Poughkeepsie and west of the Hudson is Minnewaska state park. At the beginning of your hike, you’ll probably see the waterfall. It’s amazing to stand at the top see the water rushing down the rocks. If you take the walk further, you’ll also come to the bottom of the falls, where some people even swim and head to the water. If you take it a little further, you’ll find a beautiful blue lake, which actually kinda resembles a smaller scale Lake Tahoe. You’ll definitely be happy you saw this one. Take a few friends and picnic basket and it’s a great and peaceful spot to hang and spend time.

3. Mohonk Mountain House and Lemon Squeeze

Also West of the Hudson River is the famous Mohonk Mountain house and the lemon squeeze. If you live in the HV you’ve probably at least heard of this spot. If you haven’t already visited, it’s definitely worth a trip over this summer. It even attracts people from all over the country! The lemon squeeze is known for its tight spaces between rocks. If you’re into climbing or rock scrambling it’s definitely for you! Once you get to the top, there’s a neat old tower to check out, along with breathtaking views perfect for a photo op.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
