3 Good Things Happening In The World Right Now

In the midst of the daily drama of the upcoming election it is easy to focus on the negative things happening in our country right now. My news feed on every social media outlet is full of video’s of Donald Trump degrading women. Believe me, I hate Trump as much as the next person but the more I watch those videos and read the articles the more upset I get. I’m tired of reading the bad and neglecting to think about the good. So here are 3 good things happening in the world right now.

1.New York City Office of Media and Entertainment is funding 5-million-dollar project for women in film.

The Annenberg school of film at USC declared an inclusion crisis saying that only 33.5% of speaking characters in films are women, only 15.2% are directors and 28% of all writers are women. Because of this statistic, the New York City office of Media and Entertainment pledged to launch a series of initiatives to end the underrepresentation of women in media.

2. Sri Lanka was declared malaria free

The World Health Organization announced that Sri Lanka was malaria free. During the 20th century Sri Lanka was one of the most Malaria affected countries, however thanks to the dedication of its leaders and citizens it is now malaria free. They achieved this by a strong anti malaria campaign with very effective polocies issued by its leaders. In the 1990s the country had a very resilient strategy to target the mosquito.

3. It's the first time in 10 years where obesity has been in decline.

For the first time in a decade there has been a decline in unhealthy weight gain. Montana, New York, Minnesota and Ohio all experienced drops in obestity levels. A correlation could be related to the study that found that students who drink one or more soda per day has dropped by 40% in the past 9 years. Although this is not where we would like to be in terms of obesity and national health, it is a step in the right direction.

These are only a few of all the good things happening in the world right now! It's so easy to get caught up in all of the negative news and forget all of the good people and good things that are happening too.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
