I think it's clear to say that not much has changed when I say that I played a lot of video games in elementary school. I would play them at home, at friends' houses, and at school.
The games at school a whole other story though. Schools are smart places - go figure - and they block a lot of websites. But during my time in elementary school, we had a lot of friendly competition in one of our classes on a website called
Addicting Games. The three games that have stuck in my memory the most are the ones listed below:
1. The Impossible Quiz
This game is simply what it is: a quiz. Though not impossible, it's definitely tricky, and there's a lot of word play involved. It looks like it was done in MS Paint by a teenager with a lot of spare time on their hands, but it was and still is my favorite. My friends and I would go on class after class trying to see who could get the furthest in this game. We would screen-peek, and Google walk-throughs and lists of the answers just so we could have bragging rights. Though I have gotten pretty far, I have never beaten it.
2. Kitten Cannon
Kitten Cannon is a distance game where the object of it is in the name. The player launches kittens... from a cannon, hoping to get as far as you can before the kitten dies. For some reason, this was a class favorite, despite the fact that it was not widely accepted to play during school hours. Even though it wasn't accepted, someone always found a way to play it, and to a bunch of kids, it was the funniest thing to watch and play.
3. The Helicopter Game
This is another distance game, but very basic and a lot less violent. The Helicopter Game was a favorite among not only the class, but of our teacher as well, and it sparked the most competition among everyone. Every week we would see who could go the farthest distance without crashing. Whoever won with the longest distance by the end of class got a ticket for a free cookie at lunch, much to the lunch lady's chagrin.
