Snow, snow and more snow.

Our hopes of a fast approaching spring are getting lost in the avalanches of white, the mornings that freeze your hair stiff and ice over the unplowed sidewalks, and the billowing winds that you swear are going to run off with you.

Spring may be a little over a month away, but right now, staring through your dorm window at the feet of accumulating snow, winter feels like it's going to last for an eternity.

Well, it's time to shake out of the cold, winter blues and prep up your life, and your dorm room, for the coming of longer days, warmer nights, greener grass and happier lives.

Here are some ways you can start spring cleaning your dorm room to get you in the spirit.

1. Get some plants!

Greenery always brightens up a small dorm room. You can get colorful with some bright cactus plants, or play it classic and simple with a bamboo plant. If you really want to get into the Spring spirit, Ice Orchids are perfect dorm plants. They have gorgeous flowers and are actually pretty hearty plants. They only need about an ice cube a day. That's it!

2. Rearrange your room!

You might have to do this already to help your plant get the best sunlight. :) A new season requires a new look, and you'd be surprising how uplifting a new spin with your dorm furniture can be. Try out your bed by your window, let the sun wake you up in the morning. Or maybe try your desk by it, do your homework as the sun slowly starts to set.

3. Clean out your closet!

Keep your essential winter gear but maybe you don't need those vests from October or those boots from September. Now is a good time to take a good look a your winter clothes too. What haven't you worn at all this year? Keep a bag nearby and maybe fill it up with some hoodies that just never saw the light of day and donate them! Take a note of what you might need for spring weather; rain jacket, sneakers. Stores are just starting to come out with their spring clothing lines and gear. Get what you need now before they run out.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
