3 Easy Ways to Make Your Dorm Room Feel Like Home

College can be a scary transition. Nerves are completely normal when moving into any new place, especially college with a new person. A lot of people are most comfortable in their bedroom. When you're away from home, you don't have the luxury of just going to your room to get away for a while when your new bedroom is a dorm with another person. There are a few easy decorations you can add to really lighten up the room and make it feel like "home-away-from-home."

1. Comfy Bedding

A mattress pad or a couple mattress pads are essential to a comfy bed. Thick comforters and soft blankets make it even better. The more pillows, the better. When you go to bed at night, you don't want to be laying on a hard, cold rock. Be sure to buy bedding that you'll be able to use all four years while you're away at school. The price you pay for comfort will be worth it.

2. Hang Pictures

Nothing can make your dorm feel more like home more than seeing your friends and family from home. After senior year, you'll miss your friends a lot and seeing them on your wall will help you remember the memories and feel back at home. Memories will help relieve all of the stress school has to offer. Be creative with how and where you hang them up. Get them printed before you get to school so you never have to be without your "people."

3. Christmas Lights

At night when you come in from a long day of studying, working, practice, or a job, having the lights dim is a great way to relax. Christmas lights are the perfect light to wind down with. They give the room a warming feeling. Once you crawl into your warm bed, check out your pictures of friends and family on the wall with Christmas lights surrounding you, you will feel so relaxed and be able to fall asleep so easily with an at-home feeling.

College is stressful and you're going to need all the relaxing you can get. Make your dorm room cozy with these few tips to have a hideaway at your new temporary home. & Good luck at college!
