These are the things in life I sometimes fear won't happen for me and I'm sure some of you will be able to relate.
1. Finding a job that makes me happy
There are many college students, like myself, who are undecided on their major. Naturally, the fear is that you'll never find something that truly makes you happy and you'll end up settling for a job you hate in order to make ends meet. For now, all there is to do is punch in some general education credits and pursuing your interests through electives and clubs to find your niche.
2. Getting married
One of the most important dreams I have for my life is that I find a person who I share a mutual endless love for and is also a best friend. I want to give and receive the support, love, sacrifice, and trust that only comes from this sacred one on one relationship.
3. Having my own kids
One of the other most important dreams for my life is that I eventually get to raise my own children. Next to marriage, the most precious human relationship is between a parent and their child.
I wrote these things down because about a week ago, I had an epiphany that it's possible I never get married, and the thought deeply saddened me. Immediately I had thoughts like, "God would never deny me something that is so important to me", and "I can't even imagine my life without having a family of my own".
These, along with having a job I'm passionate about, are my greatest dreams. These may be the exact same dreams you have or they could be totally different. Either way, we all have things we desire so deeply, the thought of not having them is extremely frightening.
At times I have these feelings on a deep level, but then I remember to think about the big picture and not so much the details. The big picture is that my purpose is to love and serve God and others and to be true to myself in everything. The details about what blessings God will give me aren't as important.
God will never stop loving and blessing me, he knows what is best for my life and he will make those things happen. Of course, I still know what I want my future to look like, but what I need to do is receive each day as the gift it is and pray for peace, courage, and grattitude as God's plan for my life unfolds.
