Halloween is upon us and for many that means PARTY! Though many college parties do not typically dwell on the decoration part of a party. But personally, I would rather go to a house that is lit up with cute or spooky decorations, than a sketchy pitch black house with the door hanging open.
Now for college students, it is usually a matter of funds that would rather be spent those on alcohol, but here are three glowing decoration ideas that will make your party so much more inviting and won't break the bank. In fact, you probably have some of the materials in your house.
1. Glow in the dark pumpkins
I have never liked carving pumpkins.
...I know! Carving pumpkins is the most traditional activity during the fall season, but it is such a HASSLE. The shell is hard to cut through and you have all the gooey guts to sift through. Then you have to try and make a jack-o-lantern face, and I have no artistic ability in the slightest, so it always turns out looking like a deformed shark.
My solution, however, is simple. Buy some neon glow in the dark paint from Michaels or Hobby Lobby (or any craft store), all you have to do is splatter the pumpkin in the paint and you've got a glow in the dark pumpkin! No carving. No gutting. No frustration.
2. Hanging glow orbs
Lighting can sometimes be tricky if you are trying to give off the spooky vibe. You can go with the basic pumpkin lights OR you can pick up some glow sticks, water balloons (and stockings if you don't have any). Put the glow stick in the water balloon, fill 'er up and plop 'em into a stocking. You can hang them in a tree outside or the railing of a porch fence, anywhere and you have got some creepy glowing sacks that give off an alien womb feel. Kind of nasty but sets the right scene for Halloween.
3. Glowing eyes
If you want to get extra spooky and scare some passers-by, you can hide some glowing eyes in the yards or in the vegetation surrounding your house. Simply grab some old toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls and cut different shaped eyes in them. Get the rest of the glow sticks leftover from the glowing alien sacks and stick them inside. After, you have some eerie glowing eyes, strategically placed to frighten and follow trick or treaters and wandering college kids.
