Coffee is a college student’s best friend, especially during finals. A coffee shop can also be a great place to study when you need a change of scenery from the library. These are a few places close to campus that serve up delicious coffee and offer an alternative to Starbucks and Holy Grounds.

1. La Colombe

Just a short walk down Lancaster and right next to Bryn and Dane’s, this coffee shop offers tons of drinks as well as some classic muffins and granola bars. Similar to Starbucks, La Colombe offers students a place to study that is a little further off campus, while also centrally located. Their iced lattes are amazing and I enjoyed that they made the coffee in front of you.

2. Hothouse Coffee

Located inside the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, this coffee spot has a vintage vibe and serves up some café options like sandwiches and oatmeal. This shop stood out to me, because it felt original and had a more home-y atmosphere than some other places. I think studying or meeting up with a friend here would feel comfortable and enjoyable.

3. Green Engine Coffee Co.

Proud of their wholesome ingredients, Green Engine Coffee offers paninis and toasts as well as delightful coffee. The light and bright space makes it perfect to study, to take a study break, or grab a healthy bite to eat. Although a bit farther from the other two options, Green Engine’s food options are far more expansive and definitely delicious.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
