A lot happens in the Indy and Bloomington region, and sometimes it's hard to keep up. Here are some of the recent changes that students have been most affected by in the past year.
1. Dunnkirk Will Be 18+
As most Indiana University students know, going to bars is a luxury reserved for those who are 21 or the select few who are blessed enough to have a real ID from a friend. Bluebird is something you go a few times and experience, but one can only take so many nights where you wait in a ridiculous line only to be suffocated by millions of other people and get drenched by beer and Dirty Bird’s from all different directions. On top of that, it really is just a freshman bar, where people act, well, not 21. Now that DK is going to be 18+, a whole new bar is open, which is exciting for the incoming freshmen… however, it's leaving juniors and seniors a bit skeptical as to whether the underclassmen truly have a right to be there. Differing opinions put aside, one thing everyone can agree on, is that we definitely do not need two Bluebird's in Bloomington!

2. Stricter Direct Kelley Admit Qualifications
As we’re slowly climbing the ladder of the Top Business Schools in the nation, the Kelley School of Business is always increasing their standards. The qualifications used to consist of an ACT of 29 or SAT of 1270 with a GPA of 3.7, but now this past year has been an ACT of 30 or SAT of 1300 with a GPA of 3.8. As it’s great for the school, it’s always nerve wrecking for potential students applying with the harder terms. However, all the students who have already gotten in, especially those who wouldn’t have with the constantly increasing qualifications, are feeling pretty lucky right about now.

3. The Leaving of the Legend Larry Bird
As the GM for the Indiana Pacers stepped down, hundreds of fans’ hearts broke. As a player of Indiana State whom some even classified as “one of the great’s,” Bird was responsible for many of the victories we claimed. His absence has caused many fans to feel personally affected… and those who don’t keep up with sports simply confused as to why some people are genuinely crying over this.
