3 Benefits of Couples Therapy

.

If you are in a relationship, you understand that you and your partner do not always get along. While this can be difficult, your relationship is not hopeless. When you and your partner participate in couples therapy, you both will be able to express your side of the story to a neutral party that will then help you see things not biased in your favor. Couples therapy St. George wants to help you as you strive to mend your relationship and wants to help you through giving you helpful coping mechanisms so that you can resolve any problem that may arise in your relationship. In this article, we are going to talk about three benefits that come from going to couples counseling.

Creates a Safe Space for You and Your Partner

When dealing with conflict, it is typically difficult for both parties to feel safe. Being in a relationship requires vulnerability, and once you are in an argument with someone who knows all of your flaws, it becomes very easy to feel scared and as though the partner will use those against you. However, getting over this fear will allow you to be completely open and honest with your partner. Once the vulnerability is there from both parties, there can be boundaries that are set. In couples therapy these boundaries will be enforced. This will create the therapy session a safe space, and the counselor, the neutral third party, will intervene when it may feel as though it is no longer a safe space.

Restore Trust in the Relationship

One of the main reasons that couples decide to attend couples therapy is because the trust in one partner or the relationship has been broken. This is something that can create very difficult roadblocks in the relationship. In couples counseling, the couple will be able to talk through all of the problems that they have been experiencing, and through the communication, the trust can be restored. The therapist will lead the discussion and will be able to teach couples any coping mechanism that they may need while dealing with broken trust within a relationship. Therapy is a great place where new boundaries can be instated so that the healing process and forgiveness can take place.

Improve Communication

Communication is essential in having a good relationship. Many couples struggle because they do not know how to effectively communicate their needs within the relationship. This can create many problems, as one partner may start to resent the other because their needs are not being met. In counseling, you and your partner will have the opportunity to learn effective communication skills so that you both will be able to communicate your needs effectively. This will significantly improve the quality of your relationship, as both parties in the relationship will know the things that they need to do in order to improve the relationship as a whole.

Conclusion

If you have ever considered going to couples therapy to work on your relationship, you should do so. There are so many ways that your personal growth and your relationship can flourish as you take the time to try to work out your problems at couples therapy. If you think that couples therapy may be right for you, find your nearest couples counselor. Good luck!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
