Due to the lovely services of companies like YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, and more, we are supplied with an overabundance of music — more than we could ever hope to listen to. Sadly, not all of it is good. However, if you're sick of some of the overplayed, superficial music crowding our airwaves and ears, here are three new bands you can play happily on repeat.
1. Bombadil
Bombadil released its first album, "A Buzz, A Buzz" in 2008 and its latest album in December 2015, entitled "Still Bombadil Issue #1: Score for Cell Phone, Rubber Band & Wine Glass." The group's sound, featuring minimalistic, soft rhythms created by piano, ukulele, keyboards, and guitar complements well the mellow yet fun vocals and lyrics. Bombadil's sound is essentially folk-pop, inspired and influenced by Bolivian music, and perfect for easy listening. If you're looking for some fresh music to catch your eclectic ear, this is it!
2. Dawes
You might have heard Dawes's most popular "Things Happen" from their latest release, "All Your Favorite Bands," in 2015. With a catchy indie-rock, "Americana Soul" sound, familiar to that of The Avett Brothers and The Head and the Heart, once you start shuffling through these albums, you'll want to turn up the volume on the stylish drum rhythms and beautiful vocal harmonies. (Bonus: Dawes is coming to both Driftwood and Houston in April!)
3. The 1975
Chances are you'd recognize The 1975 from their hit single "Chocolate" a few years back, but you should definitely check out their newest release from just last month, entitled "I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it." If you like fun, dance-worthy pop-rock tracks; or soft, soulful ballads — or British guys — you'd like The 1975, especially their latest album. Give a listen to their current most popular song "The Sound" for a day-starting energy booster or "She Lays Down" for some lovely chill ambiance.
