With March being Women's History Month, I figured it would be the perfect time to take a look at some of the most prominent women in our nation's history and what they've done for us! We all know the classic influential women such as Rosa Parks, Hellen Keller, and Amelia Earhart, but lets take a second to look at some of the more recent female influencers of change. Not all of these women have been recognized as influential figures, but they are definitely influencing the way that the world looks at things, making them women who will go down in history.
1. Emma Watson.
This actress is a huge activist for women's rights as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador as well as a prominent influencer for sustainable fashion
2. Ashley Graham.
This plus sized model is changing the way the world views body positivity through her confidence in her own curves (and the way that she calls people out for over-editing her pictures)
3. Beyonce.
This vivacious mother has wholly embodied what it means to be a modern-day feminist. From songs like "Pretty Hurts" to "Flawless," Beyonce aims to empower women. Even in the song "Partition," she includes a French verse where the singer tells us "Men think that feminists hate sex, but it's a very stimulating and natural activity that women love."
4. Tarana Burke.
A civil rights activist as well as a founder of the #MeToo movement, she recently founded Just Be Inc., a nonprofit that focuses on the health and well-being of young women.
5. Wendy Kopp.
Founder of Teach for America, a corps for teachers in low-income neighborhoods. In the past 20 years, they have trained more than 24,00 teachers.
6. Michelle Obama.
Most famous for being the first African-American first lady, Michelle has lead a number of initiatives. The most notable was the Lets Move! campaign, lead to help fight the growing epidemic childhood obesity in America.
7. Ellen DeGeneres.
Although we know her best for her involvement on "The Ellen Show" and other media outlets, she is a prominent activist for the LGBTQIA community and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
8. Oprah Winfrey.
A TV star, benevolent social figure, and queen of practically all media.
9. Meryl Streep.
This sophisticated actress has no ego, just raw talent. Having won three academy awards, she's ranked second among actors/actresses for total academy awards won. She's notable for many things besides acting, including her participation in the Times Up movement, Healthy Child Healthy World, and 15 other charities/organizations. Bottom line, she's an overall inspiration.
10. Barbara Walters.
The first woman to co-anchor a networks nightly news, creating the opportunity for more women to enter into a previously male-dominated workspace.
