3 Important Life Lessons We Learn From Our Dogs

In This Article:

Since the dawn of time, dogs have been referred to as man's best friend, and for good reason. They are able to brighten up many aspects of our lives as we love them and raise them up to be loyal companions. However, as much as we may think we teach our dogs, they have even more to teach us about life.

1. Always rush to greet the people that love you.

Nothing turns around a long, hard day like the excited welcoming of our dogs at the door when we return home. No matter how many other things may be going on in our lives at the time, we can always count on our four-legged friends to jump all over us and shower us with love and affection (even when we don't want them to). Dogs show us that regardless of the multitude of things we get caught up in within our daily lives, we are never too busy to greet the ones that love and care for us. It is a simple gesture that can brighten someone's day and remind them how much we appreciate them.

2. Give yourself time to let loose and play.

It is way too easy to get caught up in the craziness of our day-to-day lives and sometimes, we become so absorbed in the hectic parts that we forget to give ourselves time to let loose and enjoy the little things around us. Our furry friends are always ready to fetch a tennis ball or demolish their next chew-toy victim, they teach us how to set aside some of our chaotic times and focus on simplicity.

3. Love unconditionally and never be afraid to show it.

Slobbery face kisses, silent snuggles, or a wagging tail thumping against your legs are just a few of the wonderful ways our pups shower us with affection. Josh Billings once said, "a dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself", and it is undeniably true. The purest example of love without limitations is that of a dog. Without speaking a single word, they are able to display just how much we mean to them. The love of a dog is one that knows no bounds, and we could learn a thing or two from them.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
