From the time I visited UAB about six or seven summers ago for a soccer camp, I knew that I would attend my college years here. And I won’t lie, I have loved every minute of what UAB has to offer. However, I just have a few questions to ask my beloved university:
1. Why is there no parking space on campus?
2. What about the limited parking space for those residing on campus?
3. And why do I have to avoid driving just so I don’t lose my parking spot?
4. Why is the Blaze hedge statue on The Green always dead and brown-colored?
5. Why does it seem that the flower beds are changed every two weeks?
6. Why does the Blaze statue in front of Bartow look like a cartoon character?
7. Will the WIFI ever work on campus?
8. Why is there always construction occurring somewhere?
9. Will Sterne Library ever finish its construction?
10. Why are there random artwork statues everywhere on campus?
11. Why doesn’t the Subway across from Blount accept Dining Dollars?
12. What happened to having Chick-Fil-A in the Student Center?
13. And who designed the trash cans there? Nobody can fit trash into them without some sort of force.
14. Will the lines at Starbucks ever get shorter?
15. And why can’t we buy Starbucks gift cards with our extra Dining Dollars?
16. When will The Commons add more booths to sit in?
17. Why can’t we fill up containers of The Commons’ brownies to go?
18. Fat Sam’s has already left us, now maybe Al’s is leaving, too?
19. Will WOW ever get new buzzers that don’t sing?
20. Why aren’t there any good places to hammock on The Green?
21. Why does Rast keep the temperature in the dorms at 1000 degrees?
22. Why doesn’t the C-Store stay open 24/7?
23. Why does campus look like a ghost town on weekends?
24. Why are there so many stairs in every building?
25. Why am I judged for taking the elevator to the second floor?
26. Why is syllabus week the only week of sanity?
27. Why is the Education Building so hard to navigate?
28. Why aren’t there always movies playing in the Alumni Theater?
29. Why will we look back on our college years and think, “it’s always a great day to be a Blazer?” Because we are ever faithful, ever loyal.
