28 Thoughts About Turning 28
Blogspot

I remember ten years ago how excited I was to finally turn 18 and be a legal adult. I was carefree and had little to worry about. Fast forward to today, and now I am 28. A lot has changed over the last ten years. Even within the last five years, there were significant events that occurred. There have been many thoughts that have crossed my mind about growing another year older. I have compiled a list of 28 of those most common thoughts:

1. I am another year closer to 30.

2. Can I say I am in my mid 20's anymore?

3. I want to say I am still in my mid 20's because I don't want to accept the fact that I'm more into my late 20's.

4. I am not where I thought I would be 10 years ago.

5. I am not even where I thought I would be 5 years ago.

6. I haven't dated in over 5 years-should I maybe do something about that?

7. A small part of me wants to pursue this but mostly I don't have the time, money or energy to be bothered.

8. I am amazed and grateful that my parents have not kicked me out of their house yet.

9. I mean I didn't turn out that great-but I didn't turn out that bad either, right?

10. I am so glad I am not a teacher.

11. I am about to attend my 10-year high school reunion in September.

12. All of my friends are getting married and having kids and I'm like, "Come here, kitty."

13. It would be great if I could start saving my money instead of spending it all of the time.

14. I never thought my boss would be younger than me.

15. There are people from my high school finishing their residency as a doctor-but hey someone has to sell the new "Mario Kart" right?

16. My parents are in their 60's.

17. I am glad I'm not married to the guy I thought I loved at 22.

18. I am also glad I do not have children...yet, anyway.

19. I spend too much time playing video games but I don't care; I have cat-like reflexes.

20. I hope I do graduate with my bachelor's degree next year.

21. I do not even want to think about how much student debt I will have accumulated by the time I finish my degree program.

22. I don't know about you, but I'm not feeling like 22 anymore.

23. Maybe I will actually have my life together when I finally do hit 30.

24. The age when I finally bit the bullet and get my first women's wellness exam. Better late than never right?

25. Someone once told me to "enjoy my quarter-life crisis."

26. It's something you don't enjoy, and it's something I'm still in the middle of with no end in sight.

27. I have only had one full-time job in my life so far.

28. At least I'm still alive. Here's to the next 28 years!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
