28 Reasons To Live With 28 Girls
Maggie Ilderton

Yeah, we all know how difficult it is to live with another girl, but to live with 28? Now that’s insanity. Living in the sorority house is something every sorority girl should experience. I currently live with 28 of my sisters and it’s the best opportunity I’ve ever been given. These girls make living together so much fun and I’m going to tell you why.

1. 28 closets to go through

I love to be just as fashionable as my peers and having 28 closets I can look through makes it pretty easy. Every girl in the house has a different style. The styles range from southern sass to hipster galore and I don’t have a problem with either.

2. There’s always someone baking cookies

If you’re a cookie lover, the sorority house is a place for you. I think almost every night I’ve been in the house, there has been at least one of the girls baking cookies. Cookies for the first night spent there, cookies for the first day of class, cookies for study sessions, cookies for any occasion that you can think of.

3. Movie Nights

You have your designated movie nights and TV show marathons that you all like to get together for. It's a time when you can sit down, eat junk food, and catch up with what had been happening that week.

4. You’re never alone

There's always someone around. I love to see everyone whether it's just a quick catch up in the hall or hanging out on the couch together just talking the night away.

5. There’s always someone who wants to go out with you

We all love a girls night out. Whether it's just two of us or all 28, it's always fun.

6. Or, there’s always someone who wants to stay in with you

On the other hand, a girls night in sounds just as fun! Ordering pizza with the delicious lava cakes and making yourselves bowls (or whole quarts) of ice cream.

7. You can always hear someone singing

I'm not going to lie, I've been caught in the act myself. It's not all pretty...including myself...but you go girl. You sing your little heart out.

8. 28 study buddies

There are girls who are in the class currently with you or have been in it at some point in time that can help you study. If you need help, just ask and someone will happily come to your rescue.

9. Endless laughter

I like to tell myself that laughter is good for the soul. Someone's always crackin' jokes around here.

10. Cookout dates? You got it.

I don't think I know any human being that would skip out on a cookout run. There is always someone who will take the two mile road trip with you to the beloved destination. It's an all-time favorite.

11. The pre-game ritual

Getting ready for the tailgates is standing in a bathroom with four other girls trying to look into the same mirror, all trying to do the same thing. There's hair getting done, makeup being put on and smiles all around.

12. I think half the house has the same shoe size as me

What girl doesn't want an endless array of shoes?

13. Rides to class

If a ride is needed to class, you'll get one. There's even been times when I'm walking out of Greek Village and one of the 28 pulls up and offers me a ride. I consider myself lucky every time it happens.

14. Always someone to comfort you when you’re feeling down

If anyone needs a little cheering up, I will gladly go buy us ice cream and cookie dough to eat when we watch all the favorite movies in one night.

15. Always someone to feed you when your wallet is feeling a little empty

There have been a few times when my wallet has spoken to me and begged me to stop spending money… So I listened and my sisters selflessly feed my empty stomach. There’s 28 girls to look out for you and make sure everything’s going good, and if someone needs any sort of help, we’re there for them.

16. If you need a makeup artist or hair stylist for the night, there’s at least one person to help

These girls are basically professionals when it comes to hair and makeup. Like please, teach me your ways!!

17. There's no place like home

This house has become a second home to me and the girls in it are the reason. Everything is so genuine and it's so much fun to be surrounded by so many girls who truly have such great outlooks on life.

18. You have a rockin' house RA

You have a house RA that takes her job seriously but makes it fun by holding little programs for you all to do. She helps with any homework and she's always there when you need her or just want someone to hangout with.

19. Teaching lessons

I went into that house with zero amount of cooking skills but whenever it's all said and done with, I'm going to have professional chefs begging me to work for them thanks to the cooking lesson I receive almost every night.

20. Less days for you to clean

I hate cleaning just as much as anyone else but when you all pitch in and help, it makes cleaning so much easier. We like to keep our house nice and clean considering there's 28 of us. Trust me, it can get real dirty, real quick and we just ain't about that life.

21. Sleepovers are a door away

I've already had so many sleepovers and there are many, many more to come. Sleep overs are just so fun and can make any day better!

22. You can split the grocery bill

Some friends and I came up with a plan to buy groceries together, split the bill, and now we cook every night for each other while also saving money. Who doesn't like saving money?

23. Laundry days

Now if this was an article telling you the reasons why you shouldn’t live with 28 girls, this would be my #1 argument, but it's not. If you leave with your clothes in the wash, most kids would put them on top once it’s done and just take the washer but these girls nicely put it in the dryer or place them in your laundry basket once dry.

24. Someone to walk to class with

It's a rare occasion that I walk to classes alone. It's truly a journey.

25. Amélies, please

You don't even have to ask, if I just say the word "Amélies", I'd have a full car ready to go in less than two minutes.

26. Need a workout buddy?

Now, not everyone likes to workout which is perfectly fine but if you're a gymrat, there's someone else who is, too.

27. There are news things to learn from each girl every day

Each girl who lives in the house has a uniqueness to them. We can all learn something new whether it's braiding hair or juggling pumpkins.

28. Bonding moments

This gives you an unbelievable opportunity to bond with your sisters. There won't be any experience that is similar to living in the house. As you can see, living in the house has already made such a huge impact on my life, I can't wait for more to come! I would not trade this experience for the world.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
