Everyone learns different things from their freshman year, but it's always a good thing to keep track of what other people learn so sometimes you won't have to make your own mistakes.

1. You do not have to ask to go to the bathroom.

Please, put your hand back down, and just get up and leave. Professors do not care. It happens to everyone.

2. Business casual clothes are a must have.

You will have to do professional things at one point or another. You may be going to school to be a teacher and need to observe classes, have professional performances, or even interviews. They are always a good thing to have for in the future.

3. Your major comes before boys.

Study. Sure, you can chase after cute guys, but don't let it get in the way of studying. Hopefully, you plan to stick with your major and that will be your career. That means it will be forever. Guys, on the other hand, are not forever. You may end up falling madly in love and getting married, but who knows.

4. Everything comes before partying.

Get your work done and study for the test before going out. Get that extra rest or catch up on some Netflix instead of going out. Partying is not something to be worried about missing, it's okay if you skip a night or show up late.

5. You are not majoring in your extracurricular activities.

Spending time outside of your school work is fun, but don't let it get in the way. You can't always let your world revolve around everything else you do, but it can revolve around your soon to be profession.

6. The "Freshman Fifteen" is real.

Most campuses have a gym for students to access. Take advantage of it. The gym doesn't always have to be a chore. Have a workout buddy and make it fun.

7. Going to things alone is okay.

It is okay to show up to any on-campus events alone. No one is going to judge you. Sometimes you need that time to relax by yourself while still doing something and that is okay.

8. Make at least two friends in every gen-ed.

There is always the chance you will miss class, or begin to doze off. This way, you will always have someone to ask what you had missed or if there was homework. If they don't know, then turn to friend #2. You will have group projects in at least a few classes. It's easier to partner up with someone when you know them.

9. Appreciate going home even if you to don't want to.

Sometimes it is nice to stay on campus just because everything is in walking distance and all of your friends are in your building/the one next door. When you go home, there is a nicer bed, healthier and tastier food, and family that loves you.

10. Pick a snack food from the store that will be your favorite.

There are going to be times you will eat alone in your dorm. If you have a go-to food picked out, it makes grabbing a snack or a microwavable meal so much easier for you.

11. Take every opportunity you get.

So many things will come your way, and I'm not saying you have to take every opportunity, but seriously consider them all.

12. Learn how to say no.

You will have to say no to some of those opportunities, and that is fine. Not one person can do everything for everyone.

13. Make friends from your floor.

Sometimes you may need someone to hang out with, but you don't always want to leave the comfort of your dorm building. Maybe you'll need to borrow toilet paper (Thanks, Lindsay) or even some sugar. They're always going to be there for you.

14. Get reliable cleaning supplies that can be used as more than one thing.

Dorm rooms are tiny and get cluttered easily. I would rather have personal belongings taking up space, rather than a million cleaning supplies just to make sure I clean everything. Laundry pods are a lifesaver. No more carrying jugs down the hall, or even to the basement, and then back up to your room.

15. Invest in nice sneakers.

You will use them. Even if you don't exercise, there will come a time where you need to trade your cute shoes for practical ones.

16. Invest in an umbrella.

Don't learn this lesson the hard way. Rain will happen whether you want it to or not, and you will have to walk to class in it. No one wants to sit through an hour and a half lecture soaking wet, and no one wants to smell you once you smell like wet dog.

17. Schedule your study time into your day.

By doing this, it almost forces you to study or do your homework or practice. Keep it to a schedule that way you're able to have more

18. Personalize your room.

You are going to be living in that room for a while, if you keep it boring it can get boring. If you make it seem like home, it can be easier to sleep and relax.

19. Your professors are there for you.

They honestly do want you to succeed. They have office hours for you to come to for a reason and they are always willing to help you get through the class.

20. Having a tutor isn't embarrassing.

Everyone needs help here and there. It's okay to reach out. Passing your classes is more important.

20. Don't aim for an A+.

At least for me, my school does not go by the A+ system, so it's not even possible. In some schools it is, but just aim for your best even if it's a B

21. Your health is so so important.

It is so easy to spread sickness around the school and if you don't get checked out, it can take a while to get better. Most health centers don't cost that much for students and they have medications readily available.

22. You won't always have the best roommate.

As long as you are able to coexist in the same room, that's all that matters.

23. Eating alone isn't something to be ashamed of.

Everyone does it every once in a while. Sometimes your friends get distracted and caught up with something, but you still need to eat.

24. Take advantage of the opportunities your college throws at you.

It's one thing to take the opportunities life throws at you, but if your college offers two-dollar movies, go see them every weekend.

25. Just because you graduated high school doesn't mean you graduated from the drama.

It will still reappear every once in a while. If you are still friends with people from high school, you will definitely hear a little bit, but it still happens in college.

26. Separate yourself from the people who came to college just to party.

I'm not going to tell you not to party. I'm definitely not in charge of you, but you came to college for an education, not to party every hour of every day.

27. Chew with your mouth shut.

I used to chew with my mouth open as a child, but I learned to chew with it shut, but apparently, not everyone got the hint. Especially if you're going to eat in your room, you may be around only one person, but they don't want to hear you chomping as loud as you can.

28. It's okay to take the L, just stay confident.

There is always the chance that you will fail a class or miss a homework assignment or even miss deadlines. You should try your hardest to be the best you can be, but that doesn't always happen.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
