27 Thoughts Odyssey Writers Have When Trying To Overcome Writer's Block

When I first saw that my university was starting its own chapter of Odyssey, I could not wait to sign up. I have always loved writing and I knew that Odyssey would be a great outlet for me to express myself and hopefully bring interesting content to others. Scrolling through Facebook, I constantly see people sharing Odyssey articles that are witty, eye-opening, and relatable.

What you may not realize is that there are thousands of articles that you will never see shared on Facebook because they just didn't make the cut of being popular. It does not mean that the writer of those articles weren't talented or that their subjects were boring. Sometimes an article just simply doesn't have the spark it needs to go viral. A lot of that is due to the fact that Odyssey writers have to write an article each week, while still keeping up with their other school work. It can be extremely difficult to come up with new content each week and once you've been a writer for a few months, you're bound to experience some difficulty thinking of a topic for your writing. Dedicated to my fellow Odyssey writers, here are 27 thoughts you have when trying to overcome Odyssey writer's block.

1. Wait My Last Article Just Went Live And Now I Have To Write Another?

2. OK, Time To Brainstorm.

3. What Is A Topic That Is Relatable, Yet Entertaining?

4. Or Should I Write Something More Deep.

5. No, I'm Not In The Mindset To Get Really Passionate.

6. But Sometimes I Feel Lazy When I Do A List.

7. But Everyone Loves A Good Witty List, Right?

8. Maybe, I'll Write An Article Just About Students At My School.

9. But I Feel Like So Many Of Those Have Been Done.

10. You Know What, I Have Two Days To Think Of Something, I'll Let It Come To Me With Time.

11. This Class Is Boring. I'm Going To Think About What My Article Topic Should Be.

12. "Thoughts You Have When Bored In Class." Eh, Too Basic.

13. I'll Get Food And Brainstorm.

14. "Thoughts You Have When In Line For Food." Eh, So Obvious.

15. Oh No, My Article Is Due Tomorrow Morning.

16. I Have Got To Get It Done Right Now.

17. I'll Ask My Roommates For Help.

18. Well, Talking About "The Bachelor" For 15 Minutes Did Not Help Me.

19. Alright Sitting Down And Getting To Work!

20. Come On, What Is Going On In The World Today?

21. Hmmm, That Topic Could Work.

22. Relatable, But Not Too Predictable.

23. Alright! The Creative Juices Are Flowing!

24. Let's Put Some Witty GIFS In There To Really Shake It Up.

25. Submit! Another One In The Books.

26. Now I Will Just Wait Until It Goes Live And I Become Famous.

27. Oh And Also Get That $20 I'm Already Planning To Get Domino's With.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
