27 Things That Happen When You're Sick In College

Unless you're a lucky freshman who has yet to experience it, we've all gotten the infamous plague while in college. The world feels like it's ending, you can't breathe, and all you want is your mom. Here's a list of everything that happens during the difficult time of the plague:

1. You see friends come down with something, but convince yourself you are not going to get sick. You take the necessary precautions.

2. Your roommate gets the bug, and you try to console him/her...from a distance.

3. As hard as you fought, the sickness won, and you are now the illest (in the illness sense, not the cool sense).

4. You try to convince yourself that some Vitamin C, water, and Sudafed will save you. You're still in denial.

5. You quickly realize that is not the reality. This is no simple cold; it is the plague.

6. You are the person everyone hates in class due to your coughing, sneezing, nose-blowing, and constant sniffling.

7. The worst thing that could happen to you is forgetting Kleenex in class.

8. Everyone knows why you're wearing long sleeves even if it's a 70-degree October day

9. You then realize the actual worst thing that could happen in class or during a meeting: the dreaded coughing attack.

10. You try to stifle your cough to no avail.

11. Your eyes water, you can't breathe, and your face is bright red.

12. The thought of imminent death seems like sweet relief to this embarrassment.

13. You live through the experience.

14. All you want is your mom to take care of you.

15. These people around you, your "friends," give you horrible health advice.

16. You just want to sleep all day.

17. But responsibilities still call, so you do them as quickly as you can, so you can go back to sleep while hating your life.

18. Soup, hot tea, and hot salsa (trying to clear out those sinuses), stew, or basically anything with warm liquid are the only things you're consuming/able to keep down.

19. You call your mom crying 20 times in an hour.

20. You find the person who is closest to a mom in your friend group and ask her what to do/what drugs* to take to feel better.

*Over-the-counter medicinal drugs, for health reasons.

21. Whether it's upstairs or downstairs, a lot of stuff is coming out of your body that shouldn't.

22. You forgot what it feels like to be healthy.

23. You wake up the next day hoping to feel better, but you only feel worse.

24. You feel as though this is never ending.

25. You eventually start to feel better.

26. One day you wake up and you can breathe.

27. You've beaten the plague. It truly is a miracle.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
