Moms. Where would we be without them?

Mothers are basically the Hermione Grangers of families. They work behind the scenes to keep everything in working order, yet they often don't get the recognition they deserve for all their hard work. My mother does so many little things for me that I take for granted, and I want to let her know how thankful I am for her love and support.

1. Thank you for making chocolate chip pancakes on a lazy Sunday morning.

2. Thank you for cooking dinner for the family when you’re already tired from a long day at work. We try, but we'll never come close to the cook you are.

3. Thank you for always bringing me back a treat from the grocery store.

4. Thank you for treating my best friend like a daughter and making sure the kitchen is stocked with her favorite snacks when she comes over.

5. Thank you for making me a late night snack when I’m too lazy to do it myself.

6. Thank you for rubbing my back when I get the hiccups.

7. Thank you for recognizing when I’m upset and knowing just how to fix it, whether it be going out to eat, manicures or a good old fashioned heart to heart.

8. Thank you for not saying anything when Dad and I put on the same "King of the Hill" episode you’ve seen 25 times.

9. Thank you for being such a warm and loving mother who treats everyone like family.

10. Thank you for helping me find (insert random item) even when you’re running late.

11. Thank you for letting me borrow (read: steal) your clothes and shoes.

12. Thank you for making my bed for me when I come home for break.

13. Thank you for doing the driving 95 percent of the time. You handle small town, big city and everything in between like a boss.

14. Thank you for sitting in rain, sleet, bitter wind, blazing heat, and all other lovely Michigan weather, to cheer me on at my softball games.

15. Thank you for being there at all the other shows and events I have going on. You never miss 'em, and your support means more than you know.

16. Thank you for being excited for me when I tell you good news, no matter how insignificant.

17. Thank you for comforting me when I tell you bad news, even if it's my fault.

18. Thank you for not criticizing and helping me come up with solutions to my problems.

19. Thank you for encouraging me (and sending me pics of my dog) when I’m stressed.

The latest.

20. Thank you for taking a genuine interest in my schoolwork, relationships and hobbies.

21. Thank you for instilling good study habits in me from a young age that carry over into my college years.

22. Thank you for holding me to a high standard in school and in life, and giving me a kick in the ass when I need it.

23. Thank you for flirting with Dad sometimes. Even though I pretend to be grossed out, it gives me hope to see love prevail after nearly 30 years of marriage.

My parents in 1993.

24. Thank you for showing me the support system of a marriage, but teaching me to be able to rely on myself and not on a man.

25. Thank you for handling the trials of life with dignity, strength and grace even if the rest of us are falling apart. Especially then.

26. Thank you for hugging me good morning and good night every day you can.

27. Thank you for telling me you love me every single day. I love you too, mamma.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
