If you grew up in a small town like me you probably loved and hated it at times, but either way that town is what makes you the person you are today. Small town roots are hard to come by, here are a few signs you might be able to relate to about growing up in a small town.

1. You are completely unphased when you get stuck behind a tractor or an Amish buggy while driving.

2. City traffic confuses you.

Why is everyone so angry when they drive? What the heck is a roundabout?

3. You can expect to see at least someone you know when you go out to eat, to the post office, or anywhere in public really.

4. Everyone knows everyone and everyone's business.

Everyone already knew what you did that weekend by Sunday morning in church. Gossip travels fast in a small town.

5. Your Saturday night entertainment probably involved hanging out in a parking lot or walking through Walmart. If you were lucky you had a bowling alley or rollerskating ring.

6. Getting stuck behind a train was an acceptable excuse of being late.

7. Going to town probably involved a 20 minute drive.

8. Friday night football was defiantly a thing. Just about the whole town would be there.

Actually the town pretty much shut down for it.

9. You can probably name everyone in your graduating class.

10. When you try to tell people where you are from you just say the nearest major city or nearest highway, because no one knows about your little town.

11. Your high school teachers accidentally called you by your older siblings name or older cousins name.

12. Yes people actually went cow tipping.

13. Dating someone from another school made you seem cooler than you really were.

Unless it was football season.

14. When you broke up with someone you really did have to "move or move on" (thanks Sam Hunt).

15. You gave directions using the town landmarks.

Go left at the post office then right when you see high school.

16. Festivals and the county fair were the most exciting events your town had.

17. You rode in the back of a pickup truck and survived.

18. Most of your high school class is either married, pregnant, or both.

19. A bonfire was considered a good time. And you probably had your first beer at one.

20. You say y'all on a regular basis.

21. You know what 4-H is and was most likely an active member since you were 9.

22. People put "the" in front of everything.

The Walmart, the family dollar, the save-a-lot.

23. There was only one or maybe 2 stoplights in your town.

24. When anything new opens up in town it was a HUGE deal!

New restaurant, grocery store, hardware store, anything was exciting.

25. You really did just drive around because there wasn't anything to do.(thanks Jake Owen).

26. The closest mall was at least 30 minutes away or more. So was the nearest movie theater.

27. Sometimes you hated it, but you could not imagine growing up any place else.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
