27 Signs You're From Oklahoma

Whether you have lived in Oklahoma all of your life or spent some time with an Okie native, you'll realize that Oklahomans are a unique group of people. If you're from Oklahoma, you'll know all of these to be true.

1. You've experienced all four seasons in one day.

You can never fully pack away your summer or winter clothes because you know it could be freezing in the morning, hot in the afternoon, cool at dusk and then freezing again at night.

2. You'll take an Oklahoma sunset over any others.

Nothing can beat a sunset in Oklahoma on any given day.

3. As well as the Oklahoma sunrise.

4. Bedlam is an event, not just a game.

In Oklahoma, you either bleed Orange or Crimson.

5. You know a couple who has planned their wedding around the college football schedules.

If you have a wedding on game day, you know either no one will show or you'll have a lot of angry guests watching the game on their phone.

6. You don't even notice tornado sirens anymore.

Chances are you hear them at the same time every week when they're being tested so they've just become second nature by now.

7. You own a lot of Thunder gear.

Let's just leave this at the Thunder are a big deal in Oklahoma.

8. You consider "y'all" a word.

You'll put up a fight with anyone who tries to argue that it's not a word.

9. You go outside to look for the tornado when you hear sirens go off.

Or hop in your truck to go chase it.

10. You're used to seeing a church on every corner.

11. You know that Oklahoma has a fifth season, and it's tornado season.

12. You know what calf fries are.

And aren't bothered going to a music festival named after them.

13. You take the song lyric "where the wind comes sweeping down the plains" literally.

There's no wind that quite matches up to Oklahoma's wind.

14. Having to explain to people who aren't from here that Coke means any kind of soda.

"You want a coke?" "Yes, please!" "Okay, what kind?" "Sprite."

15. You know the best food is found at a local restaurant, not a chain.

16. Tea is only served sweet.

People actually drink tea that's not sweet tea?

17. You know how to say Eufaula, Oologah, Miami and Chickasha.

You know someone is new around here if they can't pronounce these correctly.

18. You know there's no hospitality quite like that of Oklahoma.

Traveling out of state is kind of a pain because not everyone is as nice as Oklahomans.

19. Braum's is your go to for ice cream.

20. And Sonic is your go to for drinks.

No one's ice can compare to Sonic.

21. You know who these guys are.

And probably own a shirt with them on it.

22. You know "The City" means Oklahoma City.

23. You swear by QuikTrip.

Literally no convenient store can compare.

24. One word: Cattlemen's.

You know the best steak out there is found in Stockyard City at Cattlemen's Steakhouse.

25. You take pride in your state.

Whether it's a sticker on your car or an OklaHOME shirt, you're always letting people know how much you love this state.

26. You know there's no family like the Oklahoma family.

We've seen our fair share of tragedies in this state and each time we come together as though we are all family.

27. No matter where you go, you know Oklahoma will always be your home.

From the beautiful scenery, crazy weather and friendly people, you know you wouldn't trade being from here for anything.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
