Before Teen Mom, Catfish and Ridiculousness we had all sort of shows. Dating, reality and all sorts of crazy shows used to be on all day long. Oh, and remember that thing called music videos?
If you watched the channel during the 2000s you were filled with a variety of shows. Whether you admit it or not, you watched some of these classic shows.
Here is a countdown to the shows that we all watched at some point in our lives.
1. "Next"
The dating show that started it all. Five people on a bus waiting to meet Mr or Mrs. Right. A contestant one by one would go on a date and however long they lasted, that was the money received. Many ended up nixing them once they stepped off the bus so they made zero dollars, such a rip off. Anyway, this was my favorite show on MTV and reading the fact profile was just as hilarious as watching the dates.
2. "Silent Library"
Everyone and their mother watched this show, honestly it was all over MTV. Contestants did crazy stunts and challenges in a library. What do you have to do in a library? Stay quiet. To win the money you're entire team had to remain quiet while the other did something embarrassing. You have to admit that you wanted to get on the show so you could do these too.
3. "Parental Control"
Oh, this was a dating disaster. The parents of either son or daughter hated who they were dating. They were usually gross, loud-mouthed or disrespectful and the parents had enough. They would interview potential dates and send them away with their child hoping to dump the current beau. If this doesn't sound crazy enough, you just hoped your parents wouldn't decide your future.
4. "Room Raiders"
Black light test anyone? Three constants were fake kidnapped (As if that isn't creepy) and locked into a van (Still not weird...). The potential boy or girlfriend would go raid their rooms for what exactly? Dirty secrets? Or maybe just to see if they could keep their rooms proper. It was always fun to see what people were hiding even if it was a little embarrassing.
5. "Laguna Beach"
Kristen, LC and Stephen. I don't know how many watched this, but if you had an older sister you more than likely got stuck watching this. Coming off of popularity from the show The O.C, Laguna Beach was focused on kids in high school with drama imploding everywhere. My Sister and her Best Friend (Hi, Nicole!) watched this show religiously, and I was too young to understand boyfriend/girlfriend drama.
6. "Date my Mom"
Another weird dating show that could not be possible. The dater usually being male would go on three dates with the contestants mother in hopes to find the right girl. They would then pick the mother they liked best and finally got to reveal their daughter. As if it isn't weird dating the mother enough, some of the dates were just plain weird.
7. "Real World"
Now I know this show is still on the air, but it isn't the same. Once again, MTV ruled my house. Spending the summer with my sister and her BFF meant Real World was a must. Seven strangers having to live together meant quite a couple of things. You fell in love, ultimately hated someone or just had flat out fun. The show isn't the same anymore and I miss the previous seasons.
8. "Road Rules"
This was somewhat of a spin-off of Real World. Five strangers stranded without money have to jump in an RV and do crazy challenges in order to win. They also got a grand prize if they lasted until the very end. This was a show I was desperate, even at seven years old, to do because it seemed like fun. At least we've got escape rooms now, right?
9. "TRL"
Once again, my sister Kelly loved watching TRL and I saw some of it by the time I came home from school. It featured Carson Daily as host to many celebrities ranging from music and movies. Music Videos would play, teens would scream and hold signs outside...Only in the 2000s, this would have happened. Recent news is they are bringing it back, though it won't be the same.
10. "My Super Sweet Sixteen"
This show either made you jealous or want to punch every kid that came on the screen. Kids who had really, really rich parents planned their sweet sixteen and of course, it had to be over the top. Usually, at the end of the party, the child got a brand new car or in some cases two. Jewelry, celebrities and diamonds covered this show.
11. " Punk'd"
How many of you wished for your favorite celeb to get pranked by Ashton Kutcher? Everyone was up for the challenge ranging from any entertainment background. My personal favorite? Justin Timberlake. Come on, who can't remember when his stuff was getting taken away crying. To top it off he called his mom who was also in on the joke...Excuse me, I'm checking YouTube now.
12. "MTV Movie and Music Awards"
Another two that are still on the air but I want to rewind. The Music and Movie Awards were a big thing back then and the fashion was always outrageous. From good hosts to music to hilarious antics, these shows are not the same. Most of the time half the categories aren't shown, songs are never heard of or they just aren't fun anymore.
13. "Made"
I wanna be made into an actress. Far fetched dream, right? Not with this show, you could be made into anything you want. People who pick their dreams and a coach would help them achieve what they wanted. A football player, prom queen, a pop star. You wanted it, you could get it. Though I don't think anyone ever got far.
14. "Wild Boyz"
Steve-O and Chris Pontius of Jackass fame went on to have a successful spin-off and I know I was sure watching. The duo traveled to different locations to study animals and get into their own antics by of coursing doing something stupid. Getting attacked or bitten by some sort of creature was always fun to watch.
15. "Pimp My Ride"
Xzibit really winged it with this show and it became popular quick. It focused on people who had terrible cars and wanted something nice...And different. The Rapper would take the car to a shop and they would literally change the car from bad to worse. I don't know about you but I would never ever drive some of those cars.
16. "Making the Band"
P. Diddy made some bands, but the question is can you remember them? Danity Kane is probably the most memorable or even B2K. What he did was search for talent in hopes to make a boy or girl group. They usually had a hit or two but they weren't very successful after that.
17. "Viva La Bam"
Bam Margera once again found fame with a spin-off with his family. This time the antics were always against his parents and they were so funny especially when he would set up his drums and wake them up in the middle of the night.
18. "MTV Cribs"
And this is where the magic happens. Almost every celeb said that once during every season. Between their car collections, looking into refrigerators and checking out their bedrooms. The life of the rich and famous, we all wanted to live that life.
19. "The Osbournes"
The family that started reality TV before the Kardashians. Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly, and Jack all flooded our living room and boy was it hilarious. Trying to figure out what Ozzy said half of the time was the main thing or him always shouting for Sharon. I might have to go back to rewatch that show again.
20. "Rob and Big"
R.I.P Big Black who unfortunately passed a few months ago. These two friends were the definition of BFF and their antics were something anyone could be up to. Watching them do whatever and getting a good laugh was something anyone would want. Who could remember the episode with Chanel West Coast and the dodgeball?
21. "Exposed"
A dating show with a twist. A friend sent another friend on a date where the person was set on some sort of lie detector. They then would inform the friend that the date was lying. Strange, figure that out.
22. "Boiling Points"
I always said if my friend set me up on this show I would pass with flying colors. A pair of friends would test one for money. They would send a person into a scenario with an actor who knew all of their pet peeves. The actor would then do everything they hated and as many minutes as they lasted was how much money they made. Watching people cringe is not a pet peeve for me.
23. "Jackass"
The show that started all of those stupid stunts shows. There wasn't anyone in the 2000s who didn't watch this. Johnny, Steve-O, Chris, Ryan and Bam were just a few of the people in the show and they will always be a classic.
24. "Celebrity Death Match"
Now everyone remembers this clay classic, get clay...Okay so the show was about celebrities fighting one another but they were molded from clay. It would be cases such as Britney Vs. Christina, NSYNC Vs. Backstreet Boys. Trash talking ensued and it was a very, graphic show but fun to watch.
25. "MTV Spring Break"
During spring break each year I watched this with the people I've constantly mentioned throughout this article. Musical artists took the stage to sing songs to the spring breakers and it was always cool to see. The crowd was wild, the outfits were interesting but the music was always good.
26. "The Challenge"
Now, this is a generic title but you'll know what I'm talking about in a minute. Inferno, Gauntlet, Battle of the Sexes and Seasons, the list goes on for a while. This show was a battle between Real World and Road Rules cast members and boy were they fun to watch. Wanting to jump in the challenges or even all of the fights that broke out all over made this the place to be.
27. "Wild'N Out"
Nick Cannon had a hit here but nowadays it is just a miss. A celebrity and Nick himself had teams and would compete against each other for points. It would either be a rap battle, holding water in your mouth so you can't laugh, you get the drill.
28. "True Life"
True Life I have a foot fetish. True life I'm broke. Either these topics ranged from flat-out weird or to something everyone could relate to. I was hooked on this show and its interesting topics. It would show two or three people going through the same thing. The show still pops up, but it isn't the same.
