In preparation for the bombardment of love songs, chocolate candy and roses this Valentine’s Day, here is a list of things any lonely heart can do 100% solo this holiday.

1. Treat yourself.

Why not buy yourself a nice meal? It’s not like someone else is going to do it for you…

2. Third wheel.

If you have friends in a relationship, follow them around for the day. (If you don’t know how to do that, feel free to ask me. I am a pro.)

3. Netflix Alone.

4. Get yourself some chocolate.

Valentine’s candy is already on sale at Safeway…

5. Go to an animal shelter.

Find some puppies to keep you company.

6. Write a listicle about being single on a romantic holiday!

Go ahead; join Odyssey while you're at it.

7. Go out and have fun.

Let’s be real, there will be other singles out there hoping to mingle.

8. Bake a cake for yourself.

9. Eat the cake by yourself.

10. Go on a solo adventure.

Find somewhere near you and take a hike!

11. Download a Tinder.

You might find the one?

12. Delete your Tinder.

13. Learn the alphabet in Sign Language.

Why not?

14. Take up knitting.

15. Read a romance novel.

16. Go workout.

While everyone is indulging in fancy dinners and chocolate candies, you’ll be working on self-betterment. Another benefit: the gym will be full of other singles.

17. Practice your pick-up lines.

18. Get informed

19. Go to a spa.

Fill the void in your life with essential oils, incense, and the attention of manicurists.

20. Watch a horror movie.

Scare yourself out of your wallowing.

21. Write a love letter to the person you like.

22. Build up courage (whether it be literal or liquid), and send that letter.

23. FaceTime with family.

Unless your parents and siblings all have V-Day plans.

24. Get your errands done.

Do that load of laundry that’s been sitting on your floor for the past week. Clean up a bit. Maybe shave.

25. Go about your day like you normally would.

You don’t have to conform to society’s expectations. Go out and live the independent life! You don’t need anyone else to make you happy.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
