25 Things To Look Forward To Every Monday

Rather than being upset that your weekend is over, remember what we should be grateful for.

Mondays are looked at all wrong. We dread the beginning of each new week when we should be feeling grateful that we have another opportunity to experience life. Rather than being upset on a Sunday night about setting your 7 a.m. alarm, think of all of the things you can look forward to this week that we often take for granted.

1. Your morning coffee.

2. Choosing your outfits every morning.

3. Eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, because you aren't worried about where your next meal is coming from.

4. Wine and movie night with your best friends.

5. Going to work and learning more about your career.

6. Doing your homework and going to school, because many people don't have that privilege. Yes, school is a privilege.

7. The fact that you're reading this. You have your vision and your intelligence.

8. All of the beautiful life that you will pass on your normally mundane walk to work, school or the store. Pay extra close attention to the blooming flower buds and bright blue sky.

9. Your education. You can learn as much as you please all the way through your senior year of high school at literally no cost to you.

10. Your family. Be thankful for every minute you get with them.

11. Your pets! They're a part of your family, too.

12. Music. You have the ability to hear and experience something lovely.

13. Your health. That is huge.

14. Having people support you. Knowing someone has your back no matter what is everything.

15. Clean air and water. Go take a deep breath and a big swig of water.

16. Having a bed to sleep in at night. You have a roof over your head.

17. Your friends. No matter how close you are, it's so great sharing passions and interests with someone.

18. Freedom to say whatever we want. America is a beautiful place, people. Voice your opinions.

19. A hot shower at the end of each day. There is nothing more relaxing.

20. Anything that you buy this week, because it means you have extra money to spend.

21. Driving anywhere. Be grateful for your car, even if it broke down last week.

22. Sleeping in. Even if it’s just for one day this week, relish in it.

23. The sun. Soak it in.

24. The rain. Especially when you can watch it from inside with a cozy blanket and some Netflix.

25. Every stranger that walks past you and goes out of his or her way to smile or say “hello.” Those people are something special and somehow always make your day better.

So, next week (and every week after that) when you wake up, think of something positive. Having a good mindset Monday morning means having a good week. Set aside some time and remember everything that you usually take for granted and simply be thankful for all that you have.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
