Summer in Maine is arguably the best time of the year. Tourists flock from all over to the beautiful beaches, delicious seafood restaurants, mountains, and unique New England villages. We all know that Maine is famous for lobster and moose. But what exactly should you do in Southern Maine during the summer? Here are 25 ideas to get you started.

1. Go to the Old Port Festival (June 10th-12th).

2. Visit Old Orchard Beach. (On Thursdays you can see the fireworks.)

3. Be a tourist and go to Portland Headlight.

4. Go to a drive-in movie at the Saco Drive In.

5. Go island hopping around Casco Bay on the Casco Bay Lines that leaves from Portland Old Port.

6. Go to a concert at Thompson's Point, Maine State Pier, or the State Theater.

7. Go hiking in Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park in Freeport.

8. Hike up Bradbury Mountain in Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal.


9. Visit Peaks Island during Reggae Fest Sundays.


10. Go to Portland Art Walk on the first Friday of every month.

11. Swim in the Lake at Sebago Lake State Park.

12. Go Shopping at the Freeport Outlets and flagship L.L. Bean store.

13. Visit the Fairy Village on Mackworth Island.

14. See Admiral Perry's House (explorer of the North Pole) and museum on Eagle Island.

15. See WW1 and II forts and towers on Jewel Island and camp out for the night.

16. Kayak around Casco Bay (you can rent from Portland Paddle on the East End).

17. Go explore inside a lighthouse at Spring Point Ledge lighthouse in South Portland.

18. Take a tour on the Maine Brew Bus.19. See the world's larget globe, Eartha, at DeLorme in Yarmouth.

20. Visit Funtown Splashtown.

21. See animals at York Wild Animal Kingdom, and visit the amusement park.

22. See local Maine wildlife at Gray Animal Farm. 23. Step back in time on a tour of Victoria Mansion in Portland.

24. Access by boat or walk across the sandbar from Chebeague to Little Chebeague Island, where you can camp out and see abandoned houses. 25. See a very odd natural phenomenon at Desert of Maine in Freeport.
