Living in the little town of Buies Creek, there's only so much to do. I have found in my three years of going to Campbell that there are so many things to do. So, I decided to give you a list of things to do before graduation. No, there isn't a prize if you complete all 30 things on the list, but these 30 things will create memories of Campbell University for you to hold onto.
1. Go to Creek Coffee
If you haven't been to the local coffee shop near campus and tasted the frozen hot chocolate, you're definitely missing out.
2. Go to Sunni Skies
In the little town of Angier, there is a local ice cream shop that is loved among our community- Sunni Skies. They have so many different and exotic flavors of ice cream. If you and your friends haven't been, you should definitely take a trip and go!
3. Go to Campus Grill
Right on campus in the gas station is the famous little Campus Grill, if you haven't been and tried the camel bites.. you havent lived.
4. Go to Pelicans Snoballs
Right down the road in Erwin is possibly the best snoballs I've ever had. My favorite is strawberry and sour apple. If you haven't been, I challenge you to go and try 10 different flavors.
5. Try a Sherry's Bakery Doughnut
My parents graduated from Campbell in 1986 and when they were in college, they used to go to Sherry's bakery for a doughnut... that's how long this place has been in business. So if you haven't been, and want some great southern greasy home cooking and a doughnut, Sherry's Bakery is the place to be.
6. Attend a sporting event for every sport. Wake up early on a Saturday morning and go to Triangle Waffle
Thank you to my freshman roommate Sarah Roberson for waking me up numerous Saturday Mornings to drive to Dunn and eat some delicious hashbrowns, grits and sausage.
8. Experience college night at county seat
Lol, this speaks for itself.
9. Take a picture on the camel
Take a picture on top of the largest camel statue in the world that is right here in the heart of campus at the Convocation Center.
10. Attend an SGA meeting
Want to know what the Student Government Association is doing for students like you? We are writing resolutions every other week to help benefit students like you. So, if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for us, we meet every other Thursday in Lynch Auditorium at 7:30.
11. Attend the Christmas Tree Lighting
It's by far my favorite Campbell Tradition. Every year during exam week, SGA hosts the Christmas tree lighting. We are surrounded by students, faculty, and staff to celebrate, sing and hear the true meaning of Christmas. We have Christmas cookies, hot chocolate, apple cider, and even free t-shirts for the event. It's a wonderful time for everyone to come out for a break during exam week.
12. Go to Raven Rock
A little ways down the road from Campbell is the beautiful Cape Fear River, and a hiking trail- Raven Rock. It is something beautiful to hike and makes for wonderful pictures on a sunny day.
13. Take a picture in one of the fountains on campus (even though its completely against the rules.)
I don't recommend putting the picture on social media because it's sort of against the rules, but I can say I have many pictures in the Lundy fountain from freshman year lol. Watch out for the security guys!
14. Play foot golf at Keith Hills
In case you didn't know, right down the road from campus is Campbell University's very own golf course, Keith Hills. They have three different courses to play but also added foot golf to their things to do. It is one of the few courses in the country, but is such a fun game. It's a combination of golf and soccer. If you haven't played, you should check it out.
15. Attend a spring concert
I think by far my favorite concert was Lee Brice with Chase Bryant, and The Cadillac Three. CAB does their best to get a big name to come and play at Campbell and this year we are having Andy Grammar. So, make sure before you graduate you attend at least one concert.
16. Enjoy a hot dog at Norris' Frozen Custard in Coats
Not many people have been to this little hole in the wall, but it might be one of the best hot dogs I've ever had in my life.
17. Tailgate for a football game
Adding a football program to Campbell University has benefited our sports program entirely. I love fall time, especially if it means tailgating and watching some of my favorite camels play football.
18. Rub J.A. Campbell's mustache before an exam for good luck
Rumor has it that our new J.A. Campbell statue in front of Kivett Hall brings good luck to students if you rub his mustache before an exam. So if you don't believe me, try it.
19. Take a picture with the President
I can say I have many pictures with our past President, Dr. Wallace, and just a few with Dr. Creed. But if you see him on campus, at a game, or at a luncheon, just snap a selfie. (You'll be glad you did!)
20. Go adventure Midnight breakfast
I know you've heard about this or at least about the waiting in the very long line to claim a free t-shirt and eat sub-par breakfast food. I'm kidding about it, it's fun and just a great time to take a study break during exam week.
21. Take the tour of the Lundy Fetterman School of Business Museum
So you know when you're walking down the hallway of Lundy and you just happen to look over and there's a lion staring at your face and you thought it was weird? Yeah, me too. But the little older ladies that work in there are full of so many facts about all the animals who were donated. So, one day when you have a few minutes in between classes, step inside and take a look at all the cool animals.
22. Ride the Camel at the Street Fair
This is something you'll probably only do your freshman year- but it's something you'll never forget. Mark it off your bucket list.
23. Eno in Saylor Park
When the weather is nice and warm, go enjoy an afternoon hammocking in Saylor Park on the trees. It's always a nice way to escape reality.
24. Go to Butler Chapel
Just sit in the seats of the chapel and admire the beauty of the Lord's creation. If you play the piano, the piano in there is absolutely beautiful to hear.
25. Attend an Intramural game
Whether a basketball game or softball game, it's funny to watch how intense people get at an intramural game. Some of the players think they are playing for the NBA or MLB.
26. Go to Chicken Tender Tuesday
If you're living on campus and you don't know about Chicken Tender Tuesday, it's a thing and you're missing out. Every Tuesday in Shouse, they serve the best chicken tenders. Everyone with a meal plan and sense goes. So if you haven't, you should.
27. Attend the Beach Night party hosted by CAB in the early fall.
This is by far one of my favorite CAB events, because it is always such a blast. They have a band come and play, and everyone dances, and enjoys a little bit of what's left of summer before school really gets in the swing of things.
28. Go to the Keith Hills pool
What a lot of people don't know is that Keith Hills golf course also has a pool. And once they open up their pool for the summer, it is open to students with a valid student ID.
29. Participate in the Homecoming Parade!
Another favorite Campbell Tradition of mine is the Homecoming events. Whether its the Ring Ceremony your junior year, the homecoming events during the week, the homecoming dance, the homecoming football game, participating on homecoming court, or being in the homecoming parade. I can say I've been apart of everything that has to do with homecoming, and I can't wait to see what's in store for my senior year.
30. Sit in Academic Circle and surround yourself with good friends and have a picnic, and thank the Lord that you're a camel.
Not everyone in the world has the opportunity to attend such a wonderful university, so take advantage of the time you have here. Make memories with people that you will cherish forever.
Don't ever let me hear you say again that Campbell is boring, because I just gave you a list of 30 things to do at or around Campbell.
