Panoramio

Water Street: A place where dreams come true. (Okay, so maybe not). Water Street in Eau Claire is home to many local bars and shops in which UW-Eau Claire students frequent as well as EC residents. Over the past year it has been rather difficult to get down to Water Street because of the construction on the Water Street bridge. (Don't worry, the locals were still able to find a way there). During this week, great news has been revealed to many local residents and college students alike: the Water Street bridge will be opened by back up by the start of the new school year. Here are a few things we thought were going to happen before the re-opening of the Water Street bridge.

1. Drake Bell would finally have a kid and name it "Taco".

2. Tupac would be found alive living in the basement of The Pickle.

3. Light up sneakers would make a comeback.

4. The UW-Eau Claire mascot would be changed from a Blugold to a squirrel.

5. Hoverboards.

6. The UWEC Class of 2016 would be having kids graduating from high school.

7. Chancellor Jim would appear on "The Voice".

8. The Vikings finally win a Super Bowl.

9. The Cubs finally win the World Series.

10. People don't talk about Harambe anymore.

11. Zombie Apocalypse.

12. LeBron James retires as a member of the Flint Tropics.

13. Eminem starts his bluegrass music career.

14. We find Carmen Sandiego.

15. One Direction gets back together.

16. The ending of "Inception" has been figured out.

17. Time travel is a thing.

18. Netflix carries all of the Disney movies. (Yes, all those ones that you have on VHS).

19. TV10 wins an Emmy Award.

20. Ashton Kutcher stops appearing in TV shows as "the young stupid guy". (That 70's Show, Dude, Where's My Car?, The Ranch, etc. We get it).

21. Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho is President.

22. Zoey and Chase from Zoey 101 get married.

23. Wonder balls come back for good.

24. New York City stops getting attacked by evil villains in movies. (I can't be the only one that notices it's always NYC being attacked, right?)

25. The Hill has a ski lift to use during the winter.

As you get ready to head back to school, just rejoice at the fact that the Water Street bridge will be back in action for you to cross to head to your house or favorite establishment. You feel so happy right now that you could dance, don't you? Go ahead and dance. The bridge is back and traffic can finally flow again...until there is more construction elsewhere next year.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
