25 Things You'll Hear Around Campus Before a Winter Storm

The dreaded winter storm warnings have been in effect this week and everybody has been anxiously talking about it. It's almost as if people forget that we live in the Midwest, because the first few snow/ice storms of the year always seem to be the end of the world. If you're a college student and one of these storms is headed your way or you're in the middle of one right now, you're guaranteed to hear these 25 things from your fellow students.

1. Do you think we'll actually get that much snow? Two feet of snow just sounds too excessive to be true.

2. Have you checked the weather radar recently?

3. What do you think the roads will be like?

4. Will you go to the grocery store with me to pick up food before the storm comes?

5. My professor better cancel class or I'm going to freak out.

6. I hope that I find out class is cancelled soon so I don't have to do this assignment.

7. There's no way I'm walking to class in this weather.

8. Would it be bad if I called campus security to have them pick me up for class? I mean, this is kind of an emergency.

9. Do you think they'll shut down the whole campus?

10. They've only shut down campus twice in the past twenty years, but do you think this will be an exception?

11. My professor is amazing and already cancelled class because he lives so far away.

12. Why is this one professor so committed to having class today? She literally said she'd walk here if she had to. Is she mental?

13. Is it bad if I call work and tell them I can't come in? They should understand right?

14. I might just be lazy and watch Netflix all day.

15. Yeah, I'm staying in bed all day and nobody can stop me.

16. I don't want to move my car off of the street. The street parking is too good to give up.

17. If my car can't make it up the hill I'm going to scream.

18. If my car gets stuck will you help me get it out?

19. Is it lame that I want to go sledding and build a snowman?

20. If I actually went sledding would you go with me? You know it would be fun.

21. I don't want to walk all the way to the cafeteria for food.

22. I know I'm a horrible person for ordering take-out in the middle of the storm, but I'm really craving Chinese. I'll say a prayer for the delivery person.

23. I hate winter so much.

24. When is spring coming back? Oh, it's over two months away? Fantastic.

25. I swear after college I am moving down south where it's WARM and I never have to deal with storms like this ever again.

Good luck out there everybody! You're going to need all of the motivation and good fortune you can get.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
