I know a lot of people who have siblings. I know a lot of people who have older siblings. Most people are anywhere from 2 to 4 years apart from their siblings. My brother and sister are 2 years apart from each other, but 6 and 8 years apart from me. This can be both a blessing and a curse.
1. You never got to ride shotgun.
They would take turns, but somehow it was never your turn.
2. Your parents always had a "free" babysitter and your siblings were never happy about it.
Thanks for sitting on my head and handcuffing me in a closet, Colin. Good times.
3. You thought you were super cool because you were in third grade hanging out with 16-year-olds.
4. You were forced to sit through every sporting event.
My parents took me to my sister's softball game at 5 days old.
5. Sometimes your older sister doesn't understand that she's not actually your mom.
6. You would do anything to get to hang out with them.
Yeah Erin, remember that time you told me I could hang out with you, and made me wash your car. Sneaky.
7. Your siblings were forced to believe in Santa until practically their high school graduation.
8. You've been on your siblings' dates.
One time my parents made my brother watch me when he had a date with his girlfriend. The three of us went to a movie. Fun times.
9. They were professional liars.
They could get you to believe anything.
10. They turned you into a liar.
One time my sister told my mom we were going to the grocery store, I had to sit at the tanning bed.
11. You were terrified of ever dating anyone.
When you're 7 and your sister is dramatically breaking up with her boyfriend every week, you're scared out of love forever.
12. They left for college before you were even in middle school.
13. Suddenly, all the attention is on you!
14. But.. all the attention is on you...
15. You went to visit your sister and drank with her friends at 13. It's casual.
16. You went to your first bachelorette party at 14.
17. They have the same friends and talk about people they know while you sit there like...
18. You never really fully relate to people your own age because they all seem immature.
"Shannon you're a 20-year-old in a 15-year old's body."
19. Consequently, you tend to be friends with/ date people that are older than you.
20. Every milestone kind of passes nonchalantly in your family.
"Oh you graduated middle school? I've already graduated college."
21. But it's okay because they have all the knowledge and advice to give you
22. You're all finally adults now and its weird, even though you all still sit at the kids table. My sister's 26...
23. The brother you use to fight with everyday surprises you with Taylor Swift Tickets, and sits through the show with you and 56,000 screaming girls.
24. The sister you always used to try to be like, initiates you into the sorority you followed in her footsteps to join.
25. You love them more than anything in the world.
