Being born and raised in Texas, I can say without a doubt in my mind that this is the greatest state in the U.S. I've learned a thing or two in the almost 21 years living here, and I know there are some things that just won't change. From the food to the culture, here are 25 things every Texan will know to be true.

1. Nothing can beat Whataburger

2. No matter what music you like, you've got mad respect for George Strait

3. Houston Rodeo is one of the greatest times of the year

4. You feel a special bond with Beyoncé because she's from Texas

5. You don't trust "Tex-Mex" if it's not actually from Texas

6. The idea of a Texas-themed room in a house doesn't even phase you

7. BBQ here is the best BBQ you'll find

8. Buc-ee's stops are a must on all road trips

9. At rodeos and fairs, there's no shame in eating deep-fried... whatever

10. Nothing beats a good breakfast taco in the morning

11. Seeing cars with hazards on in the rain is not a shock

12. Our weather couldn't be more unpredictable

13. We get one week of winter and that's it

14. You've had at least one Texas-shaped waffle in your lifetime

15. High school football is on a whole other level here

16. It's on everyone's bucket list to visit the state fair at least once

17. And pose with bluebonnets

18. "Y'all" is part of your everyday language

19. We measure distance in drive time

20. Real queso isn't Velveeta and Rotel

21. You know shopping for mum supplies won't be cheap

22. You can drive for hours and hours and hours and still be in Texas

23. You'll proudly sing along to "Deep in the Heart of Texas" anytime it's on

24. Every student knows the Texas pledge

25. Texas is the greatest state in America

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
