25 Days of Christmas Nostalgia

I miss the old movies that used to play

Is it just me or are you not happy with the 25 days of Christmas television program, too?

The channel formerly known as ABC Family (now known as Freeform) had its annual television program called the 25 Days of Christmas where the channel plays well known holiday movies from December 1st to December 25th and sometimes, if we're all really good during the year, the channel will even do a countdown to the 25 days of Christmas with some family friendly movies and some holiday movies - just enough to not spoil us yet.

This was the lineup for this year:

Sure this is only the 'highlights' of the program, but when we were younger, it seemed that the movies the channel chose to play during the program were way better than the movies and shows that it has played in the past few years and this year. Don't get me wrong, Elf is a good movie and the Polar Express is amazing, but when you watch them five times in one week it can get pretty old.

When we were younger we were spoiled with actual holiday movies like Santa Claus is Coming to Town -

you know, the movie where Fred Astaire explains to us the way Santa came to be a legend. Oh, and the whole movie is in claymation, not animation.

But now Freeform has one weekend dedicated to Frozen, which, again, is not a terrible movie. Except when you are a parent or babysitter and have to listen to the songs during every season of the year. Not to mention, Frozen isn't really a holiday movie, it is only a part of this program because of all the snow that Elsa creates.

Well, Freeform, if you're gonna play it that way, let me bring you back to when this little holiday short played during the school week just before break started:

Frosty is the OG when it comes to snow movies and I can't believe that he went unseen this whole season - there is even a whole song dedicated to him! Even if the channel didn't play Frosty the Snowman, Frosty's Winter Wonderland would have sufficed (not Frosty Returns, that one isn't so great). In Frosty's Winter Wonderland, Frosty gets himself a wife and Jack Frost comes to town in order to save the happy couple from melting - what a winter classic.

On the topic of Jack Frost, what ever in the heck happened to the movie about Jack Frost?

There really isn't a lot movies about Jack Frost and growing up, this seemed to be the only one. In this movie, we don't see Jack as a trickster or anything mean; we see Jack as a immortal who wants to know what it is like to be human and feel love and be loved. Couldn't we all relate to this today still? But, hey Freeform, if you don't want to go that route and choose the animation one, this is still a good one:

I'm happy that the Tim Allen Santa Clause movie is still around because that was an instant classic. But out of the whole trilogy, these past few years Freeform has chosen the third movie for its viewers to watch.. the third movie (sorry Martin Short). What about the second one where Santa finds his Mrs. Claus?

Are you feeling some nostalgic holiday spirit after seeing these movies? Aren't you a little mad that you watched Elf and Frozen all this time when you could have been watching Frosty and Santa Claus is Coming to Town? All I'm saying is Freeform could have done a little better with its choice of programming this year.

Maybe 2017 will be better....

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:
