24 Things All UT Martin Students Know To Be True

UT Martin is the smallest of Tennessee State schools, but it sure is the best.


1. Don't feed the squirrels.

2. Avoid bikes.

3. And avoid golf carts, too.

4. When you cross the street, always give a smile and wave as a thank you for not running you over.

5. Don't make eye contact with the people in the UC.

6. You won't find a parking spot in the University Villages after five on a Sunday night.

7. The people who live in the University Villages don't want to be bothered -- no matter how much the RAs try.

8. "It's a great day to be a Skyhawk," is always an appropriate response.

9. The couches on the second floor of the Library are super comfy.

10. Everyone loves how lit up the Quad is at night.

11. Bring a blanket with you to the UC. It's freezing. Always.

12. On the flip side, EPS is super hot. Always.

13. There are two Business Administration buildings. Just figure it out.

14. There's a good chance you'll get cancer from second-hand smoking outside Gooch.

15. No, the radio station is not in the Communications building.

16. Why are the stairs in Humanities so steep?!

17. The Quad is absolutely gorgeous in the fall.

18. The french fries in the cafeteria are really, really good.

19. During the summer, you start to miss Sammies.

20. And La Cabana.

21. You look forward to Homecoming for months beforehand.

22. The Soybean Festival is the best time of the year.

23. Our campus is the best.

24. UT Martin is truly my home.

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
