Everyone loves they school, I mean if they didn't they would have transferred by now, or they should have at least. But I've learned the amount of love spans a wide range. There are those whom are absolutely, completely, overwhelming obsessed with their college. The ones who were raised from birth a die-hard (insert school name here) fan. Who took four campus tours even though they already knew they were going to come here. Who own every piece of clothing and memorabilia the book store has to offer. Yeah, there's those people.
Then there are those that are so happy they decided to come to their school, but they haven't found that same love for it. They enjoy it while they're there, have amazing friends, like what they're learning, but are definitely going somewhere else for grad school. And then there's everyone else. Everyone that lies somewhere in between these extremes, along with the wide spectrum of school love. I, for one, am on this spectrum, probably leaning a bit more toward the "less love" side, but hey -- that's okay! Once we get back on campus, all will be good, but sometimes actually getting ourselves to leave our homes and fly or drive all the back to school can be a struggle. We see all of the "college lovers" on our Instagram feed posting pictures of campus saying how they "cannot wait to be back!!!!", tweets about how much they miss their school friends, and even the occasional Facebook status counting down the days until they're back on campus. And we just cannot concur. Instead, we sit at home savoring every possible second we have until we have to make the hated trip back to campus. In a week, we'll be so happy to be back, but until then nothing on Earth could be less appealing than leaving our bedrooms to go back to out 10x10 dorm rooms. Here's why home will always be better than college.
1. No class. Boom-I could end the list right here
2. Family
3. Friends you've known for more than a year
4. Real food-i.e. restaurants, home cooked meals, and really any food you don't have to pay for yourself
5. Your bed
6. You don't have to deal with people you don't like, for example, your roommate, or that creepy guy that lives next door
7. You don't need your GPS to find your way places
8. Your entire wardrobe, instead of the three sweaters you can barely fit in your dorm closet
9. No tests
10. No professors pushing their own views on you
11. Your favorite local coffee shop
12. No need to walk 20 minutes to class with a heavy backpack on
13. Your own bathroom
14. Mom does the grocery shopping
15. And the cleaning
16. Dad fixes whatever you need, instead of having to explain it to you over FaceTime
17. You can watch all the Netflix you want (without feeling guilty about it)
18. Your hometown bars where you get to see your entire graduating class
19. No need to explain your local slang
20. No one doesn't understand you because of your accent
21. Friendly greetings when you go to local stores because you've known the owner since you were 5
22. No searching for a table in the dining hall
24. No stress. And if that's not enough to make you want break to never end, I don't know what is.
So please, stop rushing us back to school. Enjoy the place that made you who you are.
