I recently had a birthday and as I reflected back on the last 24 years of my life I realized that I know a lot more than I thought I did. Here are just a few things I’ve learned.

1. Don’t sleep in your makeup, no matter how tired you are.

2. Call your parent’s every chance you get.

3. Make dates with friends, old and new. You’ll never look back and say, “I wish I didn’t see them as much.”

4. Plan on being a role-model to at least one impressionable person, because I guarantee that you are anyway even if you don’t realize it.

5. Sing as loud as you can without a care in the world.

6. Drive with the windows down.

7. Always have a spare tire full of air.

8. Always keep a spare change of clothes in your car in case you need to change your spare tire and you’re not dressed properly.

9. Tell your siblings everything. They aren’t afraid to be brutally honest.

10. Always pay your debts, even if it takes a while.

11. Drink a glass of water between every drink at a bar.

12. Take as many photos as you can.

13. Don’t forget to experience the important moments.

14. Thank someone every day.

15. Open doors for strangers.

16. Don’t use handicap privileges if you’re not handicapped.

17. Be yourself, even if you’re a little crazy.

18. Own one piece of expensive clothing. You never know when you’re going to need to look nice.

19. Embrace the bad days as well as the good ones.

20. Travel.

21. But don’t forget where your home is.

22. Love someone more than you love yourself.

23. Love yourself before loving someone else.

24. Smile.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
