24 Hours Is Never Enough

How are we supposed to handle it all?

Does it seem like all day you run errands and try to make time for yourself and yet you come to realize it is alot harder to do because we only have twenty-four hours in a day? Well, you are not alone. I too have experienced this frustration as reality hit me that I only have so many hours to use at my disposal, hence why twenty-four hours is not enough (although I am not sure how we can change it and if it would even work). Thus, how we use said time we are given is like trying to jam a circle block into a square one when we were kids - it just will not happen (although if it did, that would be pretty cool to see).

1.) You wake up to find out what you are planning to do...

And come to realize that you have no idea how to even complete those tasks and have time to enjoy your interests and hobbies. What are you to do?

Yeah, this is not going to be a good day at all... I probably should have went to bed sooner...or learned to set my alarm.

2.) You head out to try and accomplish your tasks and you run into...

A crash. Your body is tired midday and you are just wanting to make right with your bed again.

Well, maybe four cups of coffee can keep me going...? Or will it be eight? I am so tired...

3.) You finish work, and you have errands to run...

Go get groceries, go drop something off, pick up something, etc. We still can not go home even after getting done with work.

Okay, gotta get food, pick up the mail, pick up the kids, what else have I not done before midnight? Wait, what time is it?

4.) Finishing said errands to come home to...

Doing more work before you finally get to relax in your bed.

Ok I have to clean the bathroom, dust the house, vacuum the house, clean the kids' rooms, feed the family, feed the pets. Is it ten o'clock?

5.) Finally finishing your tasks to find out...

It is time to go to bed. Yup, all twenty-four hours have been used to the point where you have hardly any time for yourself. Congratulations.

Aye... It is eleven o'clock, I have classes tomorrow morning, and I still have yet to beat that game I borrowed or do my homework for those classes. Should I stay up or should I sleep?

Overall, there is not enough time in the day or anyone with a busy schedule to get any time for leisure, as it is centered on everything and everyone else. Even I can not get all I want done in a day and have time for myself - between classes, work, and other commitments, I find I barely have time for leisure (and if I do, I am putting off said commitments or homework in order to enjoy some me-time).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
