Half of the college students I know look forward to the weekend for one of two reasons: to sleep in or partying. Don't get me wrong, partying with friends can make some great memories, but a lot of times there is some regret that comes the following morning. That's not to say that you need alcohol to have fun, but more often than not, the weekend plan involves beer, cute outfits, squad, loud music, and dancing. There's nothing wrong with partying, but, personally, doing the same thing over and over gets tiring. Instead, here are 24 different ways to spend your weekend and create great memories:
1. Short road trip
Grab a few friends, an AUX cord, and some snacks, and pick a destination on the map. Find something that is 2-3 hours away, someplace you have never been, and just go and make a day of the trip and exploring the new town.
2. Watch a local game
Support your local sports teams and go watch a game; they may not be very good, but going to a game is always a good time, even if it
3. Go see a movie you would never usually pick
Go to the movie theater and broaden your horizons by picking a movie you wouldn't normally watch. Make it interesting by writing a list of the movies and just picking one "out of the hat" style.
4. Go to the park
5. Go hiking
6. Go camping
7. Movie marathon
Grab some friends, a handful of movies, and bucket of snacks, and burn through the movies. Make it more fun by having each person pick their favorite movie.
8. Go to a free museum/memorial
Almost every has a museum or a memorial, and, in my personal experience, you always come away with a little more knowledge after visiting. It may seem boring, but you could be surprised and walk away with a new-found interest.
9. Walk downtown and try local eateries
I'm a foodie, as are many of my friends, and it's always a fun experience to go downtown and find local restaurants to try.
10. DIY project- Pinterst party
Upgrade your room, try a new craft, or finish one you started forever ago and never got around to. You can get lost in Pinterest (another wormhole) trying to find things to redecorate, try, or to do.
11. Hit up yard sales or consignment shops
You never know what you'll find.
12. Volunteer
Do you enjoy art? Teach it to children. Do you like animals? Human society. There is an endless list of volunteer work that is needed. Find a place and start dedicating your time.
13. Take a random class
Take a cake-decorating class, learn how to play guitar, or try a painting class. Do something that is the total opposite of you.
14. Binge watch Netflix
15. Board game day
Grab friends, Monopoly, Sorry, a deck of cards, Trivial Pursuit, and just spend the day in friendly competition.
16. Hit up the library
Find the section you typically pick from, walk three feet, and pick a random book.
17. Go to the zoo
18. Plan a weekend get-away
19. Try geocaching
Join in on the world's largest treasure hunt; grab a friend and explore your local area.
20. Go wandering in your local area
21. Get lost in the internet
Grab your laptop, open Google, and get lost in the internet. Everyone knows that you can spend 3 hours on Youtube, starting with one lyric video and ending up watching an elephant try to paint Van Gogh. The same thing can happen with Google; start with something you're curious about and just go from there.
22. Bargain food contest
Grab a few friend, head to the store, establish a dollar limit ($10-15) and shop. Hold a contest back at home to see who made the best meal out of their modge-podge of items.
23. Go to a concert
Absolutely nothing is more fun that going to a concert. You still get the loud music, the dancing, the friends of a typical party, but it's so much more fun to watch the band instead of just listening to them.
24. Go to the aquarium
Find out when there are discounted tickets or new exhibits opening and go see the fishes!
