23 Signs You Went Through A Scene Phase

For a certain handful of individuals, middle school was not only characterized by your painful awkwardness- but also by the fact that you wanted to be known as a scene kid. You changed your style, you listened to a very select few bands, and nobody else understood you. Here are the signs that you were one of those kids who joined the black parade.

1. You would enter Hot Topic every time you went to the mall.

2. And sometimes bought band t-shirts for bands you didn't even listen to just because they looked cool.

3. A G to an F# on the piano made you instantly stop in your tracks and get the feels (and it still does).

4. You owned at least one overly studded, dramatically colored accessory.

5. Your wildest dream was to pierce as many surfaces on your face as possible.

6. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" was a cool song because you weren't allowed to swear yet and it made you feel edgy.

7. Eyeliner was your best friend.

8. You spent your days daydreaming about tattoo ideas (which you're thankful you weren't old enough to get because...yikes).

9. You based your opinion of a song based on how unnecessary the song title was.

(Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off? I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me? Nobody has time for this...)

10. You slipped the word "rawr" into text or AIM conversations on the regular.

11. Practicing how to tease your hair in the mirror became a hobby.

12. Regardless of the temperature outside, you wore skinny jeans (and owned them in every embarrassing color you could find).

13. You felt like your mom was ruining your life when she wouldn't allow you to dye your hair neon green.

14. So you bought faux hair, temporary dye, and en extreme number of hair bows to make up for it.

15. All of your notebooks were covered in doodles with diamonds, gloomy bear, and band logos.

16. Audrey Kitching was your #goals.

17. There was no point in owning a pair of Converse if they weren't customized and worn in.

18. Your social media was filled with embarrassing material such as overly edited Picnik photos, plenty of song lyrics, and overly dramatic bios.

19. "You just don't understand" was your catch phrase.

20. If a magazine cover had one of your favorite bands, you bought it so you could cut out their photos and tape them to your wall.

21. You first crush was on Alex Evans.

22. You cried when My Chemical Romance called it quits.

23. And you're currently hyperventilating because... 9/23/16.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
