23 Signs You Are From South Williamsport, Pennsylvania

When an individual asks someone from South Williamsport where they are from, the conversation usually goes something like this:

Random person: "So, where are you from?"

Me: "South Williamsport, Pennsylvania."

Random person: "Where is that?"

Me: "Have you ever heard of Williamsport or the Little League World Series?"

Random person: "No?"

When you live in a small town such as South Williamsport, not many people know where it is located and what there is to do within the town. Well, let's be honest, there are very few things to do. Anyway, for those of us who have grown up living in South Williamsport, there are a few things that almost everyone is well aware of.

1. Okay, let's get something straight. It's South Williamsport, NOT Williamsport.

2. We live on the side of a mountain. I suppose that's pretty cool.

3. The roads are extremely bumpy and narrow.

4. Everyone knows one another. Well, you either know them or you are related to them.

5. You are bound to run into someone when you go to the store late at night.

6. News travels fast, so you most likely know every little detail of everyone's lives.

7. Winter weather is unpredictable. When it snows, don't expect to have off school.

8. During the winter, the high school hill is filled with families enjoying the snow and sledding.

9. It seems as if there is never really anything to do. Going to the movies, bowling, fast food, and driving around are pretty much our only options.

10. If you go to Dunkin' Donuts, you are bound to see at least 10 other students hanging out.

11. Teachers already know you before you enter the class because of your older siblings or your parents.

12. There is no way to describe a Friday night during football season.

13. If you made the SunGazette for a sport or an academic accomplishment, countless people will congratulate you.

14. You can name almost everyone in your graduating class, their GPA, class rank, eye color, etc.

15. The friends you make in high school truly last a lifetime. Mostly because half of the people you were friends with never leave South Williamsport, so you are bound to see them when you visit home.

16. Jailbreak and ding-dong-ditching were what we did on summer nights when we were younger.

17. As we got older we realized that summers would be extremely boring if it were not for the river and bonfires.

18. The Little League World Series is what we're known for. It is also the only time of the year we have traffic.

19. Whoops, I lied. There is traffic when the roads are being worked on. Wait! Who am I kidding? That never happens.

20. I lied again. Around Christmas, there is a little traffic due to the infamous Candy Cane Lane.

21. Hunting is a big deal considering our school practically recognizes it as a holiday.

22. If you were on a sports team as a child, the South Williamsport Park Complex was your home.

23. When we were in high school, we were constantly complaining about how ready we were to get out of that stupid old town. As we headed off to college and other places, we slowly realized that South Williamsport would always be home, one way or another.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
