There is no argument that Florida is one of the most odd places in the country. However, having lived here all my life, I believe it to be my own personal heaven on earth. Here are a few telltale signs you grew up in the sunshine state.

1. You had hurricane days instead of snow days.

2. You know what a pubsub is (plus the free cookie).

3. Seeing people walk around in Parkas when the weather dips below 70 is normal to you.

4. Seeing an alligator cross the road does not raise any red flags.

5. The news headlines do not surprise you anymore.

6. You own more bikinis than regular clothes.

7. You know the four seasons are summer, lovebug season, hurricane season, and snowbird season.

8. Bug spray is your best friend.

9. You understand that North, Central, and South Florida are basically three completely different states.

10. There is no point in doing your hair because of the constant humidity.

11. Thunderstorms are more comforting than scary.

12. You have been seriously burned by the metal part of a seat belt.

13. Sandals are appropriate footwear year round.

14. You strongly believe FSU and UF are the biggest rivals of all time.

15. The saying "up north" refers to Georgia and North Carolina .

16. It is a normal occurrence for it to be raining in your backyard but not your front yard.

17. You know to run in a zigzag pattern if an alligator is chasing you.

18. You drive North for 5 hours and you are still in the same state.

19. Having to wait a few minutes for your steering wheel to cool down before you can touch it.

20. You have been teased for being southern and not southern enough.

21. Your glasses fog up the minute you step out of your car.

22. You know what the Stingray Shuffle is.

23. You know Florida has some crazy laws, and even crazier locals, but you love it anyways.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
