Me Before Youis Jojo Moyes best-selling book and as you already know itturned into a movie. Through the use of quotes from the book and GIFS from the movie, I discovered twenty-three reasons as to why the character, Louisa Clark, is literally my spirit animal.
Yes. I promise, there are spoilers.
1. She speaks one language: Quirkiness.
"Your previous employer says you are a 'warm, chatty, and life-enhancing presence."
"Yes, I paid him."
2. Running, or any type of sport is not and will never be her friend.
"You watch your boyfriend running?"
"Yes."
"But you don't run yourself?"
"No. I'm not really'--I glanced down my chest--built for it."
That made him smile."
3. Her sense of style is quite eccentric, to say the least. Nevertheless, she rocks her style with not a bit of shame. #bumblebeetights #glitterywellies
"Interesting choice of footwear," Will said.
They were emerald green. I had found them in a thrift shop. Patrick said they make me look like a leprechaun drag queen."
4. When she dresses up, it's not just to impress a guy.
"Astonishingly, not all girls get dressed just to please men.”
5. She is overlooked by everyone.
"You would have been far too busy looking at all the tall blond girls with the endless legs and big hair, the ones who can smell and expense account at forty places. And anyway, I wouldn't have been here. I would have been serving the drinks over there. One of the invisibles."
6. She too, responds in "word vomit" when it comes to uncomfortable situations.
" So, Miss Clark, why should I employ you instead of, say, the previous candidate, who has several years experience with quadriplegics?"
I looked at her. "Um...honestly? I don't know. This met with silence, so I added, "I guess that would be your call."
"You can't give me a single reason why I should employ you?"
7. Louisa Clark knows how to make an entrance. She leaves a lasting impression wherever she goes. She knows how to brighten someone's day, even though she feels like she doesn't.
"Sometimes, Clark, you are pretty much the only thing that makes me want to get up in the morning."
8. Louisa Clark knows how to cause a scene wherever she goes too.
"And then, as the dance floor briefly emptied for the next dance, I found myself saying, "What do you say, Will? Going to give me a whirl?" Come on. Let's give these fuckers something to talk about."
9. She is clumsy as an ox but she will win over your heart.
"...had dropped some of his lunch down his lap and was now trying in vain to mop it up, so that a good patch of his trousers was sopping wet...‘
Oh, lighten up, Clark. I’m the one having scalding hot air directed at my genitals.’"
10. She can make a mean cup of tea. It's her solution to everything.
"But in my experience there's not much that can't be fixed by a decent cup of tea..."
11. She has a hard time hiding her emotions. She wears her heart on her sleeve.
"She looked at me hard then, and I realized that what I felt probably showed on my face. I have never been much good at hiding my feelings."
12. When she is honest, her words can pierce right through you.
"I faced him, my heart thumping . "Your friends got the shitty treatment. Fine. They probably deserved it. But I'm just here day after day trying to do the best job I can. So I would really appreciate it if you didn't make my life as unpleasant as you do everyone else's.
Will's eyes widened a little."
13. She will be there for you when others aren't.
"I glanced and checked Will sleeping peacefully, and I realized that there had never been a point in my life before when I had just sat in silence and done nothing."
14. She puts others before herself. Her motto in life is more like: "you before me."
"I wanted to press every bit of me against him. I wanted to will something into him. I wanted to give him every bit of life I felt and force him to live."
15. She knows what she wants in life. However, she loses direction at times.
"So?" Will replied. "Challenge yourself a bit."
"You're not my teacher," I would grumble.
"Thank God," he would reply with feeling."
16. She isn't afraid of looking silly because it means being herself. She isn't afraid to dance when she wants to dance.
"I kicked off my shoes and I began to dance. It sounds stupid- the kind of behavior that on another day you might be embarrassed by...I just needed to dance. I danced laughing, not self-conscious, not worrying whether anybody could see us."
17. When it comes to men with blue eyes, she gets weak in the knees too. She mentions his eye color at least nine times in the book. I would do the same thing.
"Will's eyes met mine. Blue, unfathomable. A small cloud of butterflies landed in my stomach."
18. She doesn't get out much. She is afraid of everything and needs to be pushed out of her comfort zone on a daily basis.
"I don't do much okay? I work and then I go home."
19. She is the type of girl that would go to a wedding with her lover, to make the one that got away extremely jealous. #howsavage
"Of course. l absolutely loved the mirror." She stood up and walked back to her husband who turned away, already clasping her arm.
We watched them cross the dance floor.
"You didn't buy her a mirror."
"I know."
20. In a world full of Patricks she found a Will Traynor. She was brave enough to choose love over settling for someone, she knew wouldn't last.
"I think we can do all sorts of things. I know this isn't a conventional love story. I know there are all sorts of reasons I shouldn't even be saying what I am. But I love you. I do. I knew it when I left Patrick. And I think you might even love me a little bit. "
21. She leaves a mark wherever she goes. The sweet, kind-hearted girl left a mark on Will Traynor's heart. What girl doesn't want that?
“So this is it. You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in, with your ridiculous clothes and your bad jokes and your complete inability to ever hide a single thing you felt."
22. Her love life is filled with many struggles. However, she learns to accept the cards she has been handed.
"Don’t think of me too often. I don’t want to think of you getting all maudlin. Just live well. Just live. Love, Will.”
23. Louisa Clark lives with no regrets. Even though she didn't get the happy ending she wanted, she went through a romance she would never take back. Her connection with someone she least expected changed her life forever and it set her free at last.
"I would never feel as intensely connected to the world, to another human being, as I did..."
