23 Reasons To Thank Your Freshman Year Roommates

As freshman year comes to a close, it is important to look back on the year and thank all of the people that got you through. For me, and for a lot of people, that is your roommates. No matter how many disagreements or fights may have happened, they were there for you for a whole year of awkward new friendships, happiness, crying, disappointment, excitement, and every other emotion in the book. So here's to you freshman year roommates.

Thank you for....

1. Being friendly on the first day.

2. Letting me eat your food and steal your clothes.

3. Motivating me.

4. Watching movies and eating ice cream with me when I was sad or homesick.

5. Listening to my problems and making me feel better.

6. Helping me work through life crises, no matter how big or small.

7. Teaching me how to be a good roommate.

8. Forgiving me for my mistakes.

9. Being excited for me when I got good news.

10. Being my first friend at college.

11. Never letting me go somewhere alone until I was ready.

12. Teaching me patience and understanding.

13. Letting me sleep, even if I go to bed super early.

14. Putting up with, and learning to love my weird habits and ways.

16. Missing me when I left for break.

17. Stalking my Facebook so you understood who I was, my life, and knew all about the people in all the stories I told you.

18. Always wishing me good luck before an exam, presentation, even class.

19. Saying "Aww" every time I show you pictures of babies in my family.

20. All of the memories and inside jokes.

21. Letting me mom you.

22. Making future roommate and dorm plans starting at literally the beginning of Freshman year.

23. Most of all, thank you for being the best roommate(s) and second family a girl could ask for.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
