22 Thoughts When Filling Out Your March Madness Bracket

March means St. Patrick's Day, warmer weather (hopefully), and, most importantly, March Madness. It's impossible to not be a part of the tournament in some way when you're living on a large campus, whether it's going to the games or filling out a bracket. But it's a different experience for everyone, especially those who don't exactly follow sports. You've probably had these thoughts during the tournament if you're also someone who still doesn't get all the hype of March Madness:

1. Why is it called March Madness when half of it is played in April?

2. How many teams are there?

3. There's 64? That's so many, how am I gonna decide who wins?

4. Why are none of the teams in a region where their school is actually located?

Last time I checked, Minnesota is not in the south.

5. I'll just start in the top left corner and go in order, gotta be logical.

6. What are the chances a 16th seed will beat a 1st seed?

7. Basically zero? Maybe this year will be the first

*Puts down South Dakota State to win entire tournament*

8. I'm pretty sure Duke is one of my school's rivals so I can't put them down to win.

9. I applied to Notre Dame! Maybe I should pick them to win.

10. I don't actually have to watch all these games right?

11. Okay deciding between Michigan State and Miami. The Spartans are a pretty cool mascot, I'm gonna go with them.

12. Should I stay loyal and pick my school or who will actually win?

Sorry Terps, you've been slacking lately.

13. I've heard UCLA boys are cute, so they must be good at basketball.

14. Finished the first round, I need a break from all this.

15. I'm getting tired, can I just pick the highest seed for everything?

16. Calling it the Sweet Sixteen makes it sound more fun than it actually is.

Sadly, it's nothing like the Hilary Duff song.

17. Got it down to the Final Four! How do I decide between all these 1 seeds now?

18. I literally haven't watched a single game all year, how am I supposed to be qualified to pick these?

19. I heard someone say they didn't like Kansas. Looks like they're out.

20. Villanova is near my school, I'll just have them win. Plus I think they won last year too so they're probably good.

21. How long until I find out if I win?

*looses interest after 2 days*

22. Looks like half of my Elite Eight teams lost in the first round, I give up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
