22 Signs You Went To A Small-Town High School

Every small-town native knows these to be all too true.

1. Your yearbook had a "Most Country" senior superlative.

It was a super popular category, too. And it was a nightmare to choose only two people for it.

2. You were BFF's with at least one of your teachers.

You went to them when you needed help the most, and they wanted to help you out as much as they could. It didn't matter if it was homework, a letter of recommendation or a desperately needed piece of advice—they wanted to help you succeed in any way they could.

3. Being on a sports team was everything.

Playing sports was an incredible way to stay busy in a town that may not have even had a stoplight. Whether you were playing on the team or cheering for them on the sidelines, you felt as though you were part of something bigger than your town could ever be.

4. You followed an Amish buggy to school on multiple occasions.

And then felt really bad when you passed it.

5. You went to school with the same kids year after year.

The class roster rarely changed.

6. You always knew who was doing what.

Because gossip spread like a damn wildfire in your school.

7. You counted down the days until summer started.

Because a summer in a small town meant spending your days with your friends doing whatever the hell you wanted to (which usually meant having a bonfire with your crew every night and eating a disastrous amount of smores).

8. You sat with the same people for four years straight.

Your crew didn't change much in the four years you were in high school, and you were perfectly fine with that. You sat with them in class, during lunch, at assemblies, and pretty much anywhere else that required you to interact with other humans at your school.

9. You learned a lot during your school bus ride.

Whether it was a new rumor or a disgustingly dirty joke, you learned a lot on your bus rides to and from school every day. The bus was the place where people of different backgrounds came together, and when you get different people together, you're going to learn a new thing or two.

10. At least half of your school's population wore camo.

And the other half mocked them for it.

11. You were in almost every club the school had to offer.

And were in the yearbook at least 20 times because of it.

12. You couldn't mess around in class because your teacher was also your coach.

You weren't going to risk running extra hill sprints for acting like a fool in class. No f*****g way.

13. You always knew where the party was at.

And there was a pretty good chance it was in a hay field and/or barn in the middle of nowhere. Totally legit.

14. You were quick to size up the new kid in school.

And then try to make friends with them once you realized they were alright.

15. Your school didn't have cliques.

Sure, certain people hung out together, but there was no real cliques at your school because everyone seemed to do everything. The drama kids also played sports, while the athletes were also in the National Honor Society. Since everyone blended together in their activities, there really was no room for cliques at all.

16. You had the same teachers for years.

Your ninth grade earth science teacher was your also your 11th grade chemistry teacher. And somehow your eighth grade English teacher came back and taught in your English class senior year.

17. You wouldn't do anything without your crew.

Whether it was going to town for food after practice or going to catch a movie on the weekend, you didn't go anywhere without your BFF's by your side.

18. You saw people swapping partners left and right.

Small school means small dating pool. With such slim pickings, people wasted no time getting together, breaking up and repeating the cycle with someone new.

19. Your school's parking lot was full of pick-up trucks.

And you constantly heard bickering over what type of truck was better.

20. You heard everyone complain about how much they hated your town.

21. But then you saw the same people stick around after graduation.

22. You have endless memories you wouldn't trade for the world.

Because there will never be a place quite the same as your small high school.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.

You are a senior in high school, you have made it to the final year that you have been looking forward to since the first day of freshman year. Whether this has been the worst or best four years of your life, appreciate it. You will never have these times back, you will never be in high school again. It is hard for someone still in high school to wrap their brain around, but there will be a day when you wish you could be in the shoes you're in right now. Here are 15 things I have learned being in college that I wish I knew as a high school senior:

Everyone, and I mean everyone has heard of the show "One Tree Hill". Many people think that this show is the best thing they've ever watched and others won't bother watching it because they know they'll get hooked. And yes, I know many people have written about this show before, but I couldn't resist. I could re-watch every season multiple times to the point where I can almost quote an entire scene. Trust me, once you start "One Tree Hill", you will be hooked. There's way too many reasons to list as to why you'll love this show, and these are just a few.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.
