Wikipedia

Punk rock as a musical style emerged in the '70s in concentrated punk scenes in California, New York, England and Australia. Pioneers of punk and successful early punk bands include the Sex Pistols and The Clash in England, The Ramones and Television in New York, and the Germs and the Angry Samoans in California. This list of super-short, mostly hardcore punk songs not only gives you the song and its length, but also the album, release date, track number and general info about the band—plus, it's in chronological order! Punk rock is known for its short, to-the-point style—so let's get to it!

1. Wire – It’s So Obvious

53 seconds; the eighth track off the 1977 album "Pink Flag." It's a snarky song with a lot of vague wordplay.

Wire is a rock, punk and post-punk band formed in London in 1976.

2. The Germs – What We Do Is Secret

43 seconds; the first track of the Germs' only studio album "(GI)," released in 1979.

The Germs are a hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in LA.

3. Circle Jerks – Deny Everything

A mere 26 seconds; the first track of the album "Group Sex," released in 1980. (Haha, "sex."...what were you expecting with a name like Circle Jerks?! This is punk rock!)

The Circle Jerks are a hardcore punk band formed in 1979 in LA.

4. Circle Jerks – What’s Your Problem

56 seconds; the 12th track on "Group Sex" (1980).

5. Circle Jerks – Red Tape

Also 56 seconds (whoa), and also off "Group Sex" (it's track 14). It's about the bureaucracy and bourgeoisie killing you, killing me!

6. Minor Threat – Straight Edge

46 seconds, off the "Minor Threat" EP, released 1981. (Track 4.)

Minor Threat are a hardcore punk band formed in 1980 in Washington D.C. This song lead to popularity of the straight edge movement, which condones a substance-free lifestyle. Straight edge followers later developed their own criteria for straight edge, which include refraining from frequent sex, being vegetarian or vegan and/or not consuming caffeine or using any kind of drugs whatsoever (including prescription and cold medicine).

7. Dead Kennedys – Hyperactive Child

37 seconds; the third track of the Kennedys' "In God We Trust, Inc." EP, released 1981.

8. Minutemen – Search

51 seconds; the opening track to the 1981 album "The Punch Line."

Minutemen are a punk rock band formed San Pedro, California in 1980.

(I only realized after I found all these songs that nearly all of these bands are California-based. I guess it makes sense because hardcore was really big there, and that's where you get these radically short songs. You're welcome, I guess.)

9. Minutemen – Futurism Restated

56 seconds; the fifth track of of their "Bean-Spill" EP, released 1982.

10. Fear – F*ck Christmas

44 seconds; only on the "F*ck Christmas" Single, released 1982.

This song is a true gem. Fear are a hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in LA. They helped shape the style and sound of California hardcore punk.

12. Descendents – M 16

43 seconds; the sixth track off "Milo Goes to College" (1982).

13. Redd Kross – Self Respect

42 seconds; the ninth track off "Born Innocent," also 1982.

Redd Kross are an alternative rock band from Hawthorne, California who evolved from a 1978 punk band called The Tourists, became Red Cross in 1980, then changed their name to Redd Kross in 1984, reportedly because they were inspired by the comedian and actor Redd Foxx.

14. Angry Samoans – Lights Out

52 seconds; track three of "Back From Samoa," released 1982.

The Angry Samoans are a hardcore and garage punk band formed in 1978 in LA.

15. Angry Samoans – Coffin Case

39 seconds; the 11th track off "Back From Samoa."

16. Black Flag – Fix Me

This song and the next two are by Black Flag—one of the real pioneers of punk rock. They were formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California as a punk and hardcore punk band.

17. Black Flag – Wasted

51 seconds; track four of "The First Four Years" (1983). One of my favorites. It makes me laugh every time. (Don't be like this guy, kids. Use YOLO for good, not as an excuse.)

18. Black Flag – Revenge

58 seconds; the sixth song on "The First Four Years" (1983).

REVENGE!

19. NOFX – Hobophobic

Yes, you read that right. This song is about being afraid of the homeless. It's 48 seconds long and the first track off the 1996 album "Heavy Petting Zoo."

NOFX is a punk rock band from LA formed in 1983.

20. Off! – Darkness

48 seconds; track two off the "First Four EPs" 2010 compilation album.

This song and the next two are by Off!, a hardcore punk supergroup formed in LA in 2009 of Circle Jerks and Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba.

21. Off! – Broken

49 seconds; track 15 off "First Four EPs" (2010).

22. Off! – Cracked

52 seconds; track four of Off! (2012).

(Check out the rest of this album for 6 more songs under 1 minute.)

And...SUPER-SPECIAL BONUS HONORARY TRACK since it’s exactly 1:00 long:

23. Stiff Little Fingers – Here We Are Nowhere

A perfect minute-long song off the 1979 album "Inflammable Material." (it's track 3)

Stiff Little Fingers are a punk rock band formed in 1977 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. (The only band here from outside the US! I can't believe they're not from LA, right?)

Isn't this article way better than those articles that lie and you get one less point on the list than you thought? They do it just to make you read more articles—and usually it doesn't even work! How dare they! I did just the opposite—you got more than you thought you would. What a bargain!

If you want some funny short songs, check out the “Fingertips” songs on They Might Be Giants’ album Apollo 18! (1992).

If you haven't heard of this wonderfully wacky band, They Might Be Giants is an alternative rock band formed in 1982 of members hailing from Lincoln MA, Brooklyn NY and NYC.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
